The father-son duo not agreeing on the GOAT debate—well, it’s not the first time it has happened. Similarly, Shaquille O’Neal and his eldest son argued about the GOAT NBA player. Interestingly, the Los Angeles Lakers legend was disappointed because of his son’s choice. Myles picked his dad’s former teammate, LeBron James. And the 52-year-old who has had a friendly back-and-forth with LeBron was quick to remind his son about Michael Jordan‘s history.
Recently, Myles and Shaquille O’Neal successfully performed as the O’Neal Boyz. Yes, their first act together was during the performance at Tomorrowland Rave Cave 2024. The 27-year-old even called it his GOAT set performance during the Complex video. And in This is GOAT Talk, one question obviously was about the best player ever in the NBA. Myles quickly responded, “LeBron.”
Shaquille O’Neal said, “Okay,” and realized he wasn’t his son’s number one pick. “For me, it’s uh, Michael Jordan,” and Myles tried to defend his take by stating he hadn’t seen MJ play. But the 4x NBA champion defended his GOAT and reminded his son of the technological advantage. “You got Google, don’t you?” Once again, Myles started defending, but this time Shaq trolled him hilariously.

Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James’ friendly banter
Last year, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the new all-time leading scorer. Myles congratulated him on his social media and made his number pick very obvious. In the Instagram story, Myles O’Neal posted a picture from his childhood when the O’Neal boys met LeBron James. The four-time Finals MVP could be seen in a suit posing with Myles, Shaqir, and Shareef in the picture. The caption of Myles O’Neal’s story read, “BEST OF ALL TIME @KINGJAMES.”
That could be the reason why Shaquille O’Neal started dissing the Ohio native. Both share a family relationship, and their back and forth was full of banter and no malice. “I’ve heard players say — including myself, — ‘I feared [Michael Jordan].’ I’ve heard players in your generation say they feared Kobe [Bryant]. I’ve never really heard any players say they fear LeBron,” stated O’Neal.
Still performing on the court, James posted a story on his Instagram, which had a post stating Shaquille O’Neal played 1,207 games in his entire NBA career, spanning 19 seasons. Whereas in the 1,480 career games LeBron James has played, he’s had 1,210 consecutive games with 10+ points. “Why is this so funny to me!!” James replied to Shaq without mentioning him. Just driving up the taunt with a shrug and a dozen laughing emojis.
