If the chatter is to be believed, Dallas is not done giving us shockers before that trade deadline runs out on Thursday. After shipping Luka Doncic to La La Land, the Mavericks apparently want another superstar to bolster the brand-new AD-Kyrie combination. If this is real, this could be the newest blockbuster since that Miami Super Team in 2010. We might not be ready for this. However, part-time Dallas resident, Shaquille O’Neal has already approved this rumored trade pursuit.
Naturally, the TNT Tuesday crew dove right into the huge Luka-AD exchange between the Lakers and Mavs over the weekend. Before the discussion ended, Adam Lefkoe informed Shaq that Mavericks are rumored to (or wish to) potentially acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns. Dallas is still reeling from losing Luka. Are they prepared for that combination?
“I have seen reports that the Suns are taking conversations about Kevin Durant,” O’Neal confirmed to Lefkoe. “With the move that they don’t have to pay our boy a supermax, I’m sure they’ve got a lot of money floating around.” O’Neal is referring to the $117 million supermax contract that Doncic is no longer eligible for after getting traded.

With all that cap space the Mavs have, they could afford another superstar like Kevin Durant. “So if they’re putting it out there, it can happen,” is Shaq’s optimistic outlook. It’s too optimistic, in fact, and impractical.
Is the fantasy KD to Dallas trade possible?
The Dallas Mavericks have hedged a very expensive bet on sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers. While they have a superstar in Anthony Davis now with Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving – a combination we never thought we’d see ever – they have to conserve their resources to build a team. The only young gun they got in this trade is Max Christie and a single first-round draft pick.

They won’t have to pay Luka $117 million next year. But they’d have to dish out more than $120 million to draw KD to Dallas. That’s how much the Phoenix Suns reportedly have on the table for Durant.

What’s your perspective on:
Can the Mavericks really pull off a KD trade, or is this just Shaq's wild fantasy?
Have an interesting take?
Whether they can get KD or not could be a fantasy or another hush-hush trade bombshell. However, Dallas is not done. GM Nico Harrison recently acquired Caleb Martin from the 76ers by trading Quentin Grimes and draft picks.
Shaquille O’Neal is more positive about the Mavericks, possibly because of his love for the city or his longstanding friendship with Mark Cuban, the former majority owner of the franchise. Cuban has distanced himself from any trade decisions for the Mavs, including this latest one. He does support Mavs’ ‘win now’ approach though. And so does Shaq. His fantasy sounds like a stretch. But then again, we never thought Mavs would trade Luka Doncic either.
