Shaquille O’Neal has always been popular for his quests aside from the NBA. From pro wrestling to DJing, Shaq has tried his hands at multiple things. And he has made various connections in different fields while doing so. Recently, the ex-LA Lakers legend extended his wishes to one of his friends from the music industry, suggesting in good humor what he considered as a ‘super-team’.
“Happy Birthday @Eptic. I’m always available to replace Danny in @mvsterhvnd 😂,” Shaq posted on X. It is worth mentioning that ‘MASTERHAND’ is a band that includes three dubstep artists. Michael Bella (Eptic), Danny Howland (Svdden Death), and Ian Slider (Space Laces). Moreover, the ex-NBA icon had once commented on an Instagram post by the band, remarking, “This is the equivalent of a super team in basketball.”
Shaquille O’Neal’s latest post on X was a reply to Svdden Death’s birthday post for Eptic. “MICHEAL DUBSTEP BIRTHDAY HERES MIKE ME AND SOME OTHER GUY IDK WHO IT IS THO ILOVEMYMICHEAL,” it read, captioned by Danny. Notably, the other guy being talked about in the post was Shaq himself. So, in a way, it seemed like Danny was taking a dig at the five-time NBA champion. And thus the hilarious offer by the ex-NBA icon to replace Danny in the band.

However, it is not as if the 52-year-old has never shown a serious interest in the field or treated it as a mere side quest. In fact, he is quite popular by his stage name, DJ Diesel, and even performs at certain events, the most recent one being Shaq’s Dun House Las Vegas 2024.

And the ex-Lakers legend has had 5 studio albums since then and even a soundtrack album. However, this has not been a medium for him to continue to live to his popularity. In fact, Shaquille O’Neal credited dubstep music with getting him into the right state of mind after his retirement from the NBA.
“I was definitely in a funk.… Music was the only thing that got me [out of it]. When I DJ, it gives me the same adrenaline rush as a playoff championship game. That’s why I do it,” Shaq told Yahoo Entertainment. While playing as DJ Diesel, the 52-year-old had stated on another occasion that he takes things seriously. “When I’m performing and you’re paying money to watch me perform, it’s my duty to give you your money’s worth and more,” he said.
