If you love Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal’s banter, Shaq has a new one for you. The 4x NBA champ hilariously disregarded the entire position that Barkley represented throughout his NBA career. Doing so, however, he unintentionally targeted Anthony Davis as well.

Jalen Rose during his recent appearance on Inside the NBA stated his expectation that the Hall of Famers on the show–Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley–can appreciate the kind of numbers Antony Davis has been dropping recently. “Power forwards are not bigs. Don’t do that… You said ‘I know your hall of fame bigs can appreciate’. He’s [Charles Barkley] not a big, all for it,” Shaq hilariously said.

While Shaq did not exclusively point at Davis like he did at Chuck, his claim against the power forwards incorporates the Lakers star anyway.

The remarks have to sting a bit considering they come after Davis recently leveled Shaq as the only Laker in franchise history to average 30+ PPG, 10+ RPG, and 2+ BPG through the first 6 games of the season. Now, it’s important to take into account the fact that steals and blocks were first recorded in the NBA in 1973-74.

Interestingly, this resurgence from Davis is no accident. From the moment JJ Redick joined the Lakers’ coaching staff, he emphasized AD’s potential to dominate offensively. During the preseason, Redick spoke about the team’s plan to make the 9x All-Star the focal point of their offense to lighten LeBron James’ load at age 39.

And so far, the results are undeniable. Davis is averaging the most points of his career and playing like a top-five MVP candidate. Thanks to his elevated role, the Lakers have gone from an average offense to ranking fourth in offensive efficiency.

As far as Shaq’s comments are concerned, while they were intended in good humor, he can still exclude himself from the remarks considering he’s playing a center for the Lakers now. Meanwhile, it’s common for Chuck and Shaq to engage in friendly banter every now and then so no harm there.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Shaq right to dismiss power forwards, or is he underestimating their impact on the game?

Have an interesting take?

It was just recently that Charles Barkley took a dig at Shaquille O’Neal

During one of the recent episodes of Inside the NBA, the cast got into discussion on Will Barton and DeMarcus Cousins arguing on the sidelines after the Denver Nuggets’ blowout 126-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Shaq, as always, had a story to share. “I’ve had this situation many times,” he began. “Sometimes it brings you closer together. I’ve had fights with every team I’ve been on—Nick Anderson, Penny, Kobe, D-Wade. And you know what? In the end, we’re brothers. We just get frustrated about getting embarrassed on TV.”

Fair enough, right? But leave it to Barkley to turn Shaq’s heartfelt insight into pure comedy gold. “And the bottom line is, Shaq had all of those fights—not like he was the common denominator—he was just an a**,” Chuck hilariously said. And Shaquille O’Neal had his comeback moment of sorts with his recent dig on power forwards. The fans of the show would know, this is how it usually runs between the two.
