“Osain Bolton” might not seem wrong if you’re following Shaquille O’Neal‘s dictionary. But his real name is Usain Bolt. Well, the retired runner isn’t the first injured party in the 4x NBA champ’s history of butchering players’ names. In this ongoing series of O’Neal getting players’ names wrong, there’s yet another new incident. And this time, two people became victims of O’Neal’s hilarious antics.

In the latest episode of The Big Podcast, host Adam Lefkoe decided to challenge the basketball legend with a quick spelling round. Unfortunately, it backfired. Lefkoe asked the Los Angeles Lakers legend to spell the name of French basketball star Victor Wembanyama.

On a confident note, the 4x NBA champion had a great start, correctly spelling the first four letters. However, when he reached the fifth letter, which should have been “a,” O’Neal instead said “y.” While the guest, DC Young Fly, didn’t catch the mistake, Lefkoe quickly pointed it out. O’Neal thought the spelling was “Wembyama.” It’s not.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend took a second chance. The famed comedian also encouraged O’Neal. This time, he spelled the full name correctly, except for one letter, spelling it as “Wembamyama.” That is not correct. Finally, Lefkoe corrected both of them and spelled the name right, “Wembanyama”. However, much to his shock, O’Neal quickly backtracked and claimed that he had spelled it correctly all along.

Run the tape,” while the O’Neal’s TNT colleague protested, urging them to check the tapes, O’Neal found solid support from the comedian. And well, this is nothing new for O’Neal, who has quite frequently mispronounced players’ names and sometimes in the most hilarious fashion.

Bones Hyland doesn’t believe in Shaquille O’Neal’s hilarious antics

O’Neal also had trouble remembering the places where some players are from. He once mistakenly said that Nikola Jokić was from Russia. This mistake didn’t sit well with fans. Another time, he was unable to pronounce Bones Hyland’s name during a TNT segment. He thought it was “Hill-end” until Ernie Johnson helped him.

Hyland, who later watched the clip, was surprised and shared that his name is too easy to pronounce. He further claimed that O’Neal likes to tease people whom he respects, suggesting that perhaps O’Neal was just trying to be funny while appreciating the player.

Calling the TNT analysts as “definitely cool people” he further added, “Yo, there is no way. I am not gonna lie, I feel like they do it on purpose on TNT. They know how to pronounce certain people’s names. But I feel like they do it on purpose, this guy be funny.” And it’s not just O’Neal, his TNT colleague Charles Barkley has the same issue. While it seems like a genuine mistake, it is quite repetitive but certainly hilarious.
