30 years later, David Robinson just gave Shaq more reason to be mad. It’s established that Shaquille O’Neal made up a fake beef with David Robinson. But, he’s genuinely salty about one thing – losing the scoring title early to The Admiral. Michael Jordan had just retired to play baseball in 1993 and rookie Shaq had a real chance to match his idol. Robinson ruined that and kick-started a conspiracy theory. For decades there’s been an underlying suspicion that David Robinson’s historic game had been fixed against Shaq. Three decades later, his then-teammate, Dominique Wilkins kinda-sorta confirms it and it has short-circuited Shaq.
During a recent appearance on Draft Kings, Wilkins recalled what went behind the scenes on the last day of the 1993-94 regular season. “During the last game of the season, I still remember…our coach came into the locker and said, ‘Don’t be upset, I’ve been told to take y’all out after the first five minutes of the because they really want to see David Robinson keep the scoring title in the West.’ ‘Cuz they don’t want Shaquille O’Neal to take the scoring title to the East.”
The host had to call a ‘timeout’ to say, “That game was fixed!” Even Wilkins shows he was upset about the situation. But, he couldn’t be more infuriated than the guy across the country who the Clippers and Spurs ruined it for.

Shaquille O’Neal saw Wilkins’ clip in this Instagram post and commented, “I f**kin knew it.” He wanted to spread the word too, so he shared it thrice on his Stories (or it was a mistake, but you get the sentiment). Can you blame him too?
Bitterness all around from David Robinson’s epic game
With Michael Jordan out playing baseball, Shaq had a chance to show he was as good a scorer as a rebounder. And for most of the season, it looked like O’Neal would keep the scoring title in the Eastern Conference in MJ’s absence. He had a slim lead, 0.6 PPG over Robinson But, on the last day of the season, David Robinson ruined that for Shaq and the East.
The Orlando Magic had played earlier that day and their star center 32-point performance. Wilkins’ Clippers and Robinson’s Spurs would play later. And Wilkins alleges that they underplayed their team, took Nique off the court after four minutes, and let Robinson make 71 points that day to get a lead over O’Neal.

The entire Spurs team even fed Robinson the ball to keep scoring. When O’Neal saw that, he was mad and said the whole squad enabled Robinson to surpass him. Whereas Orlando’s Superman said he was triple-teamed and unselfish.

It’s a story Wilkins has said before too and it grinds him as much as it does Shaq. The incident would alienate several players from the organization too. So, it’s not just about redemption for Shaq. It goes deeper.
