Shaquille O’Neal is no stranger to controversies. From his infamous feud with Kobe Bryant to his widely publicized divorce, O’Neal has become used to handling adversity with aplomb. But this time, he has risked irking his female fans with his latest antics on social media. While he obviously meant it as a joke, he had to make sure there were no loose ends. So his caption contained just 3 words which cleared any and all doubts about whether the 4x NBA champion was serious or not.
The audio in the reel involves a woman asking, “I said I don’t understand why I always have to do the laundry and you never have to do any of it?” The reel captioned “lol just kidding” further features Shaq lip-syncing to the reply, “It’s called a wash-her not wash-him.” The premise of the joke is wordplay around the ‘washer’ used for laundry. Shaq was wearing a gray tank top and smoking what seemed like a hookah in the video. According to some fans in the comments section, this setup of the video furthered his humorous approach.

The original audio source of the reel traces back to former NFL star Matt Leinart. He created a reel using this viral TikTok audio even before Shaq. However, the interesting part is that Shaq’s reel surpassed Leinart’s in terms of views because of his larger social media following.
The caption to the reel reflects Shaq’s awareness of the responsibility that comes with this kind of social media presence. While the same couldn’t be said during his playing days in the NBA, the 51-year-old is always learning. With his birthday soon coming up, some fans believe O’Neal is turning into an “old head.”

How have fans and netizens reacted to the reel?
Though the netizens have now gotten even more brutal with their opinions and roasts, Shaq’s humorous intent did not go unrecognized. Despite the reputation of the Instagram comment section for its dark sense of humor, fans went easy with Shaq.
One Insta user replied with laughing emojis to Shaq’s reel while commenting, “Corny Dad jokes are the best.” Another user took a humorous approach to the possibility of Shaq being killed by women over this joke. “Shaq, like this comment if you are still alive,” she commented.
Some users felt Shaq was “wildin in his old age,” while another fan commented, “Shaq is such an old head.” One fan failed to understand Shaq’s actions, writing, “Shaq wyd?” The 51-year-old continues to entertain fans be it on live TV or social media. O’Neal has truly cracked the code in terms of fan engagement.
