Shaquille O’Neal has earned a name for himself for his unique fashion choices. His love for the chains is now a part of his fashion statement. In fact, the IG video with which Shaq started the year 2024 featured him wearing a big fat $4238 Superman diamond-smeared chain. But was this addition to his fashion choice inspired by his son Shareef O’Neal? That’s what Shareef has claimed in a recent Instagram story.

Shareef shared the House of Highlights reel from the Final Four stage of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The video features Shaq donning a ‘DIESEL’ chain. “SHAQ ICED OUT AT FINAL FOUR,” highlighted the text on the reel. Meanwhile, Shareef shared the reel to his IG story, claiming to be the inspiration behind this look. “HE ONLY STARTING WAERING CHAINS BECAUSE OF ME,” read the caption to Shareef’s IG story.

However, from a recent revelation made in his show, it seems that Shaquille O’Neal is not a huge fan of men’s jewelry, but just fancies them enough to go for them. In ‘The Big Podcast’ he had stated that he spent a million dollars on jewelry and stuff that he was not gonna even wear.

“I’m in the store with all these damn rappers, and they coming in and I’m like, ‘I know these dudes don’t make more than me. How much (for) that chain? Oh, give me the chain!’… I spent a million dollars on sh*t I ain’t even gonna wear…” he stated on his show. However, this is not the only instance where the 4x NBA champion went overboard with what he fancied.

That day when Shaquille O’Neal spent a million in a day

Interestingly, despite having a net worth of $500 million, Shaq still believes that overspending is a problem with him. Speaking with REVOLT back in 2022, Shaq had told how he spent $ 1.3 million in a single day just to prove a point. That took place when a guy at a car dealership, not recognizing the NBA star, asked if Shaq could afford the car he was inquiring about.

“Now I’m pissed. I said, ‘What the f*** you just said to me?’ So I buy three. That one, that one, and that one, and I want them dropped off. Move the seat back. So I got 3 Rolls-Royces that I never drive. So there goes another million,” Shaq stated back then.

The ex-LA Lakers icon has also confessed on his podcast that he not only wastes money on cars but also on getting them fit for him. “I was this idiot that would buy the sports car knowing I can’t fit and then having to pay extra… to make it fit.” In another revelation about his tryst with the cars, he had once stated that he switched to Hellcat from Lamborghini, because a guy in Hellcat overtook him!
