Deion Sanders is the most dominant topic in football right now. He’s such a phenomenon, he comes up in the most random discussions. One former NFL pro boldly compared himself to prime NFL-era Prime Time, eliciting all kinds of reactions. While Shannon Sharpe didn’t buy it, one music icon had the wittiest reaction to it. One of Sanders’ biggest cheerleaders, NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal, broadcasted it to his Instagram followers.

Sanders played cornerback for most of his NFL career. But he was also a versatile return specialist and wide receiver. Another former NFL WR boasted about the same versatility that caught Shaq’s attention.

Chad Johnson (formerly Chad Ochocinco) bragged a little too much on his new podcast with Shannon Sharpe, Unc & Ocho. He dropped a loaded claim about himself that even Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t resist sharing on his Instagram Stories.

I was supposed to be a defensive back first going into the draft,” Johnson claimed to Sharpe. “I went to Oregon State to play defensive back…But, I get drafted by the Bengals and I tell Mr. Brown, ‘Mr. Brown, I really don’t want to play receiver, I want to play defensive back…I wanted to be like Prime. But, the defensive back room was too crowded and it moved me to receiver.”

To the initiated, Johnson is listed as a wide receiver on Oregon State’s profile. He would play that same position in his professional football career. Sharpe refused to believe Ocho was a dual-position player. He argued he Chad wouldn’t be able to play the defensive back effectively. Johnson retorted, “They say the same thing about Prime,” referring to Deion “Prime Time” Sanders at his NFL peak.

Sharpe was done with people comparing themselves to icons like Sanders and LeBron James. But Ocho was insistent he had the Prime Time versatility. They went back and forth with Johnson listing his high school stats. Then he dropped this line. “I was Travis Hunter before Travis Hunter. What are you talking about? I was Deion.” That line seemingly caught viewers, fans, and even Shaq’s attention.

Sharpe’s hilarious comeback to it was, “Dionne Warwick?” She’s a living legend who also had a sassy response to Johnson’s claims. “I believe I was Dionne before Deion,” she tweeted.

Shaq hasn’t added any context to the post. So it can’t be said if he agrees or disagrees with Chad Johnson or simply finds it funny. Regardless, he’s recently proven he doesn’t think anyone compares to Coach Prime.
