After firing Adrian Griffin, the Milwaukee Bucks officially welcomed Doc Rivers as their head coach. He has previously coached the Bucks for only four games this season, achieving a 1-3 record. His first victory with the team was when the Bucks defeated the Dallas Mavericks 129-117 on February 4. However, some were against the franchise’s decision to hire River, one of them being Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal, who wasn’t fond of this idea. Moreover, he even shared that the team might fire him soon. Recently, O’Neal’s former teammate, Robert Horry, disagreed with this take.
In the latest episode of The Big Shot Bob Podcast, the 7x champion explained that Rivers is unlikely to be fired this season, highlighting that the coach would have to continue for at least this year. While he understands the situation of the Bucks because of their performance and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injuries, Horry highlighted that the franchise will at least give Rivers a year to implement his strategies.
“They would not fire him because they said we give him a full season to implement his offense and his defense. So this year is a hard pass. I don’t think he gets fired,” Horry explained to his co-hosts and listeners.

He further added, “Especially with the Greek freak always getting hurt. You know, he hurt a calf last night. So I think he stays for at least one more year. Why would you be paying two coaches, not three coaches?”

Shaquille O’Neal isn’t impressed with the Milwaukee Bucks hiring Rivers
Horry also highlighted the financial aspect. When Horry was asked about whether the team regretted their decision to hire Rivers, he said, “I think they’re, they’re regretting in the sense that they have to pay another person.” The 7x champ highlighted that it is ultimately about the performance of the team and whether the players are in a good position to compete regardless of the coach.
Let’s take a look at O’Neal’s reaction to the Milwaukee Bucks hiring Rivers. In a segment of NBA on TNT, the Big man of the league clearly expressed his stance on the matter. “He’s respectable. Doc’s been around the game a long time and he knows he didn’t deserve that,” Shaq said about the coach’s new job.
