The Memphis Grizzlies have managed to bag some crucial wins in the last few weeks. Thanks to Ja Morant, who has been the backbone of their offense since his return. However, just a few days after completing his 25-game suspension, a controversial celebration by the young point guard went viral for the wrong reasons. Opinions from several superstars have come out lately and the last to join the party was Los Angeles Lakers legend Robert Horry. The 7x champion decided to share an honest take, surprisingly, in favor of the Grizzlies’ franchise player.

Morant secured his second win against the New Orleans Pelicans a few days back. Notably, he faced them in his first game upon return. He hit the game-winner both times, but during the second game Morant got a bit too excited. The 24-year-old celebrated by imitating shooting a rocket launcher, which has created quite some trouble for the young star. Let’s not forget he was suspended for showing a gun online after repeat warnings from the league and Adam Silver. While a few believe he was wrong for this celebration, Big Shot Bob feels there is no problem with it.

Horry shared in his podcast, “When I saw that, I was like, ‘Oh s***’. I said people going to go at him about that. I’m like, ‘Dude, it’s just a celebration’ and I was like hoping people just going to ignore but you know people can’t ignore anything. They always want to jump on something.”

The co-host agreed to Horry’s take, “He’s in the moment. Leave it alone.” As someone who took and made big shots himself, Horry probably understands the rush of emotions that come with hitting a game winner for your team.

The 7x champion is happy to give Morant the leeway. Instead, Horry thinks the problem is with all the naysayers who are making a mountain of a molehill.

Ja Morant is unfazed by the chatter around the league

A few other former NBA players also spoke about Ja Morant’s contentious celebration. Former Clippers star Lou Wailliams shared that Morant should “stop” using any kind of symbols that could get him in big trouble.

Chandler Parsons also agreed with Williams’ take, pleading to the young point guard to “make this about [his] livelihood” and stop detracting attention away from his game. Similarly in the NFL, Justin Jefferson was called out for his gun celebration after a touchdown. He was even fined a massive 14k dollars by the league. Luckily for Ja Morant, no actions were taken on his celebration.

At the same time, it is good to see the young point guard stay away from the noise. The Grizzlies superstar shared on his Twitter, “You gotta rock ya hips“, while a part of social media was calling him out for imitating a rocket launcher.

Although there is no harm in celebrations like this, Grizzlies fans will be hoping that the league doesn’t decide to crack down on Ja Morant once again. After all, his team needs him the most! What are your thoughts on the above story? Share your take in the comments below.
