It wasn’t love at first sight for Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union. From their first encounter at a Super Bowl party in 2007 to now, the couple calls their love a slow and nurturing process. “We like to party and he doesn’t drink at all,” Union said about meeting Wade for the first time in an interview with Essence. While that may have changed now, the two have always found a way to work it out, despite the odds. During his recent appearance on a show, the Miami Heat icon revealed the secret of their loving relationship.
When asked about how he maintains that kind of a deep bond with his wife, Wade shared the one thing that both follow in their relationship. “We all shooting for the relationship with your partner to feel like the relationship with your best friend, okay right? Because the relationships with your best friends is seamless, it’s pouring into each other and it’s being able to tell each other,” Wade said in The Wine Down Podcast.
Both like to keep it real on camera. And as the 3x NBA Champ mentioned, friendship is one aspect of it. Right from the beginning, the couple has been honest about their relationship. This is something that has always impressed their fans. Wade had once candidly shared how they evenly split their finances.

Even with their daughter Kaavia, the two prefer a 50/50 split. Union and Wade also signed a prenuptial agreement before their marriage. This honesty and friendship extends to all aspects of their relationship and even to what they wear.

It was way back in 2010 when the couple made their relationship official. Wade and Union made their red carpet debut as a couple at the ESPY Awards. After dating each other and even going through a brief break-up, the two tied the knot in 2014. In all the red carpet appearances the two have made until now, there has been a charm and a connection between them that even they themselves don’t deny.
During the same podcast, Wade shared that they were never aware of their outfits for the big events or party nights and yet managed to be in sync. Wade and Union’s stylists, Jason Bolden and Thomas Christos Kikis share a part of the credit too.

About their red carpet appearances, Wade shared, “But ultimately you want to be in sync in some way some capacity and so it’s very rare that you see Gab and I on a carpet and we’re not in sync because when our stylists are in sync and so that allows us to have you know non-verbal communication through them.”
We have seen it during their Met Gala appearances as well as their most recent at the Oscars. While the Miami Heat legend donned Versace, Union wore Carolina Hererra. Despite having such busy work lives and schedules, the two still maintain the same love and inspire the millions who follow them.
