In NBA history, few names shine as brightly as that of Scottie Pippen. Now a new chapter in the Pippen legacy unfolds as his son, Scotty Pippen Jr., etches his own name in the NBA record books.

In a recent Instagram post by ESPN’s Shams Charania, it was revealed that Pippen Jr.’s ship has set sail for a new contract with the Memphis Grizzlies. “Pippen had an impressive finish to 2023-24 and a strong NBA Summer League and preseason. The younger Pippen’s road to the NBA hasn’t been without its challenges. After going undrafted in 2022, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the NBA Summer League, showcasing his skills and determination. His performances caught the eye of several teams, leading to a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in January 2024. This opportunity allowed Pippen Jr. to split his time between the Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle, honing his craft and proving his worth at the professional level.

Pippen Jr.’s hard work and dedication have now paid off in a big way. The Grizzlies’ decision to offer him a multi-year contract is a testament to his potential and the impact he’s already made within the organization. Being a new player in the league with just two years of experience, he had shown quite a good performance by scoring an average of 12.9 PPG and 4.7 APG. The young point guard also did well during the summer league where he scored 21.5 points and 8.7 assists per game.

It can be speculated that the sudden retirement announcement of Derrick Rose who was the youngest player to win the MVP title, paved the way for Pippen Jr. to get the contract. Now only one roster spot is available in the team. The Memphis Grizzlies, led by young stars like Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., have established themselves as one of the most exciting young teams in the NBA. Adding Pippen Jr. to their roster further bolsters their depth and potential.

In the end, whether Scotty Pippen Jr. reaches the heights of his father’s career or has a completely different path, his journey is a reminder of the unique nature of sports and the power of legacy. However, did you know about the other sons of the Chicago Bulls legend?
