It wasn’t always smooth sailing for Scotty Pippen Jr. in the NBA, but patience and perseverance are paying off. The 24-year-old guard is finally showing the league what he’s made of. While his work ethic has played a huge role in his rise, Scotty Jr. doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the impact of his legendary father. “He’s a resource I can always rely on,” Pippen Jr. once said. But, now, Scottie Pippen himself is giving his son a well-deserved shoutout.
The Hall of Famer took to Instagram to highlight his son’s impressive run with the Memphis Grizzlies. Sharing a video compilation made by High Level, Scottie Pippen wrote “That’s my boy 🔥.” The clip featured some of Scotty Jr.’s best moments in a Grizzlies jersey, showcasing his growth and confidence on the court.
He also shared the original post’s caption, which hyped up his son’s impact: “Scotty Pippen Jr. is making BIG waves for the Memphis Grizzlies this season! 🔥💥 The 6’1″ guard, and son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, is carving out his own path in the league.” The post continued, “Following in his father’s footsteps, Scotty Jr. brings a relentless energy to the floor… His game is elevating with every minute he plays, and the Grizzlies are taking notice.”

And the stats back it up. In 52 games this season, Pippen Jr. is averaging 9.6 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds, a major step up from his Lakers stint. In his Lakers’ season, he played only six games and averaged 2.3 points, 0.3 assists, and 0.7 rebounds. However, now things have changed for him.
More importantly, his ability to step up in an expanded role has helped Memphis stay strong with a 35-17 record, holding a solid second-place spot in the Western Conference.

But Scotty Jr. knows success isn’t just about numbers. “I would say it’s the trust the players and the coaches have in me,” he told RG earlier this year. “They’ve instilled confidence in me just the way I am. As soon as I came here, they trusted me to play my game and build around that.” However, he’s quick to credit his father as well, acknowledging the influence that shaped him into the player he is today.

How did Scottie Pippen help his son?
Earlier this season in November, Scotty Pippen Jr. delivered the best performance of his young career, and the setting couldn’t have been more perfect. Dropping a career-high 30 points and 10 assists in a win over the Chicago Bulls, he didn’t just put up impressive numbers—he did it on the same floor where his father, Scottie Pippen, built his Hall of Fame legacy.
“It’s crazy,” Pippen admitted. “I’ve seen stuff online about the games I’ve had, and it’s a dream come true. I never imagined hitting some of these milestones, and it’s special for both me and my dad.”

But Scottie Pippen’s impact on his son goes beyond just history. “He’s a resource I can always rely on,” Scotty Jr. said, emphasizing how his father has been a guiding force throughout his NBA journey. “After every game, I talk to him, and before every game, too. He gives me feedback and advice. It’s good to have that extra set of eyes and a different voice.”
The mentorship has been crucial as he continues to develop his game. And Memphis is reaping the benefits. With key players in and out of the lineup, Pippen Jr.’s steady growth has helped keep the team competitive.
