Will Justin Pippen live up to the Pippen legacy at Michigan, or carve his own path?

Earlier this year, Justin Pippen shared an update about his commitment to college basketball. In April, he was sitting alongside his father Scottie Pippen, and sister Sophia. “I was really going to make a decision between my other schools,” but ultimately chose Michigan as his next destination. Today, he provided an update which the Pippen household couldn’t wait to share and comment.

First Larsa Pippen commented, “Let’s go 🔥🔥,” and uploaded the same post on the Instagram story, “Let’s go @justinpippen.” The Sierra Canyon high school graduate uploaded the first glimpses of him in his new jersey. Even elder brother Scottie Pippen Jr. shared on his IG story,  “🔥🔥.

The youngest sister, Sophia, commented,  “❤️❤️.” At the same time, Justin had the caption, “year one,” signifying his new start. And the commitment to the program was not easy as Coach Dusty May was constantly in touch with Scottie Pippen’s son.

Then I got a call from Coach Dusty May. I wanted to give him a chance. We set up a Zoom call. I went on a visit, and I felt it was the right place and situation for me. Coach Dusty May has been straight up with me. He sees me playing both on and off the ball. He even mentioned they are bringing in other guy,” Justin said in an interview back in April.

The 19-year-old also mentioned once how his elder brother is helping him to perform better. “Just being in the gym with him and other pros this summer, and my dad as well. He’s just telling me to wake up every single day and put the work in.” It seems that the work put in has impressed the new teammates at Michigan.

Have an interesting take?

Justin is the third freshman guard on the roster but suffered a minor injury over the summer and is very close to returning. “Justin is coming back from a little injury right now. When he was playing, [you could see] he has basketball in his blood.” Danny Wolf, Michigan’s junior player, said to On3, a few days ago.

Wolf also believed that Scottie Pippen’s son was playing with a lot of maturity in comparison to other freshman guards. The same thought was echoed by graduate center Vladislav Goldin. “When I played in the lineup with Justin, he doesn’t look like a freshman, probably just because of his experience — it makes sense, because he was probably surrounded by basketball.”

Goldin even went further and called Justin the “most mature players on the team.” That is why even Wolf can’t wait to share the court with the young star once again. “I’m excited to see what he looks like when he’s all healthy.” With parents firmly behind Justin and his decision, the 4-star high school athlete can’t wait to start his new journey.
