Over the years, multiple NBA stars have had trouble with the law. Even though young fans perceive athletes in the country as role models, they have sometimes slipped up, unfortunately. Notably, some popular names like Dennis Rodman, Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley, and so forth have had run-ins with the law in the past. Recently, a former Boston Celtics teammate of Kevin Garnett was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Even though the player is not as popular, he was a college superstar and a former lottery pick. Notably, he had a role to play in Garnett’s infamous 2013 trade.

The player in question last played in the NBA in 2013. He was a college superstar at the University of Louisville who declared for the 2009 NBA draft and was picked 11th by the New Jersey Nets.

The Nets sent Williams to the G-League after an underwhelming rookie season. He was then on the roster of the Houston Rockets for two years and the Sacramento Kings in 2012. After playing a year of overseas basketball, Williams joined the Boston Celtics in 2013. That’s when he played alongside stars like Garnett, Paul Pierce, and so forth. Eventually, however, the Celtics waived him and he did not play in the league thereafter.

As per CBS News, Williams and 17 other ex-players were charged with defrauding the league’s health and welfare benefit plan out of more than $5 million.

According to the indictment, the former players engaged in a widespread scheme to defraud the plan by submitting false and fraudulent claims to get reimbursed for medical and dental expenses that were never actually incurred.

Terrence Williams played a part in The Big Ticket and The Truth‘s move to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013.

After a disappointing first-round loss to the New York Knicks in 2013, the Celtics decided to rebuild. This involved trading away some of their aging superstars. The Celtics struck a deal with the Nets for Garnett and Pierce.

However, New Jersey sent 5 players back to Boston in return. As such, they needed some more room for the incoming talent. So they waived Williams so that the move can be completed.
