Is Garnett right—should Wembanyama seek mentorship from Olajuwon or Duncan to reach his full potential?

Kevin Garnett is eagerly awaiting the biggest showdown! The San Antonio Spurs are set to pair Victor Wembanyama with Chris Paul after his one-year deal with the franchise. While Garnett has high expectations and faith in what the duo can accomplish for the team, he has also shared important advice with the rising basketball star. In the latest segment of “KG Certified,” the Boston Celtics legend revealed how Wembanyama could enhance his game.

Garnett believes that Wembanyama could become much stronger and more skilled if he trained under Hakeem Olajuwon or Tim Duncan. The Big Ticket has previously offered the same advice to the NBA ROTY.

“I look at Wemby, and I’m like, man, do he even know where he came from? Can you imagine if he invested in, like, Hakeem Olajuwon tape, or if he actually went and seeked out Timmy Duncan and actually got some of that knowledge? He’s scary about his business. Yeah, he’s scary, ” Garnett claimed.

It’s not just Garnett, several other NBA legends have suggested the same. Kenyon Martin is one of the ex-NBA players who believed that Wembanyama could benefit more if he had teamed up with Tim Duncan. However, lessons with 3x Sixth Man of The Year have been quite useful for the Frenchman.

Furthermore, he noted how much Wembanyama struggled earlier in the games. But Garnett is confident that Paul’s addition to the Spurs roster can be useful. It might be able to make things easier for Wembanyama. “Last year, he did not get any easy baskets, everything felt hard or challenged, and rightfully so…Playing with Chris Paul, he is going to get easier baskets,” Garnett said on his show about the Spurs star.

Have an interesting take?

During the offseason, Wembanyama has been all fired up, with a glimpse of his talent shown in the Team USA vs. Team France match-up in the Olympics. While Wemby’s efforts were evident in the Summer Games, it wasn’t enough to take down Team USA, which was replete with the best and elite NBA players.

This was the second time Team USA beat France. Unlike what many thought, the defeat only fueled Wembanyama’s determination. He even issued a warning, calling out his opponents and stating that he would defeat them. “I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years,” he said. Although France lost, Wembanyama didn’t take it lightly. He seems to be what Garnett predicted. And maybe now with CP3 beside him, he just might bring the beast inside him out.
