If anyone properly celebrated Father’s Day from the NBA community, it was Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson. For multiple NBA greats, including Shaquille O’Neal, Dwyane Wade, and the late Kobe Bryant, the occasion was a closed celebration. For the 5x NBA champion, however, it was a bash that included stars from numerous fields. The 62-year-old took to his official account on X and shared the highlights of the event.

The 12x All-Star thanked all the guests for coming out to celebrate the special day. “Cookie and I enjoyed an amazing Father’s Day bash at the house with our closest family and friends celebrating some incredible fathers!” he wrote in the caption to the post. He also thanked the vendors for the event and even gave them a shootout of sorts through his series of Instagram stories. Meanwhile, the photos in his post on X included a range of guests, including Samuel L. Jackson and Byron Scott.

Jackson and Johnson have been close friends for almost a decade now. The two being spotted on vacations during the summer with family and other friends is an annual tradition for the two. One of the most recent ones was in Italy, where they even encountered Hollywood Hall of Famer Clive Davis. Apart from this, the exchange of wishes on birthdays and other important occasions has also been a usual practice between the two.

As for Byron Scott, the basketball enthusiasts would’ve heard of Scott and Johnson as a popular backcourt duo from the Lakers. Notably, Scott landed with the Lakers in 1983 and was shouldered the responsibility of replacing Norm Nixon. Although Magic Johnson had already won 2 championships with Nixon, his Synergy with Scott also flourished and the two won 3 NBA championships together.

The synergy transcended the boundaries of the NBA and turned into a bond, as evident from the two still uniting for such events. Notably, the event also included the most concerned individuals for Magic for the day, his three children — EJ Johnson, Andre Johnson, and Elisa Johnson.

Andre Johnson shared a dedicated Instagram post for his father, featuring a photo from the recent event itself. “Happy Father’s Day dad. Thank you for being the best example of a Father and how a man should take care of his family that anyone could ask for. I hope you enjoyed your special day and I love you…” he wrote in the caption. The 42-year-old is Magic’s first-born and his only child with his ex-girlfriend, Melissa Mitchell.

Now, although EJ and Elisa did not take to their social media handles to extend wishes on the special day, the two actually share a close bond with their father. As many would know, EJ is an LGBTQIA+ icon along with a TV personality. While the Lakers legend reportedly had his reservations initially, he later supported EJ for his identity. In fact, just recently, Magic and Cookie celebrated the birthday of their only biological child together. “Happy Birthday my EJ! Wishing you the best birthday ever. Continue to be your most fabulous self!! I love and admire you so much…” the 5x NBA champ wrote for EJ.

As for Elisa, she is Magic Johnson’s adopted daughter. But it never seemed this mattered at any point between the father-daughter duo. From what it seems, the 12x NBA All-Star stands strong with the 29-year-old in being a supportive father. One of the most recent instances was Buck being in attendance at Elisa’s eyewear brand’s show. He even took his official IG account to thank the other guests for making the show a success.

“Thank you Nieman Marcus for hosting the event and a special thank you to all of Elisa’s fans, family, and friends who showed up to support today!” he wrote. So this recent Father’s Day event was clearly a celebration of this bond he shares with his children, along with other fathers who are his friends.
