Shaq revealed his personal preferences regarding fan interactions during an interview with GQ. Between traveling to different cities, you might end up spotting the NBA legend somewhere. But also note his surroundings before you approach him.

Towering at 7’1″, it’s easy to spot Shaquille O’Neal in a crowd. The Los Angeles Lakers legend, who was known for terrorizing NBA players, has the most wholesome moments with fans in public. GQ wanted to know if Shaq had a personal policy he expects fans to respect.

He is approachable at any time. But not when he’s in front of his dinner. “Only time I say no is when I’m eating. Let me get done eating and I’ll take care of you,” he stated.

It’s a respectable boundary. Especially since Big Diesel is sure to make it up to any fan for their patience. There are certain people he will accommodate regardless though. “I always say yes to kids, always say yes to elderly people, always say yes to people that are extremely nice. Rarely do I say no.”

He’ll make an exception for the young fans but not for his stomach. “But if I’m eating a meal with the boys and you come over? I don’t want to be touching hands when I’m eating my big chicken sandwiches.

That’s a witty reference not just to his love for all things chicken and his go-to comfort food from his childhood, but also to Big Chicken. That’s the multi-preneur’s rapidly expanding fast-casual dining experience with a menu elevating the classic chicken sandwich.

And just like Shaq’s policy for fans, Big Chicken is all about spreading happiness.

Big Chicken CEO, Josh Halpern said on the ES Fancast that Shaq is all about the kids. He’s supported the Boys and Girls Club and he’s driving several initiatives for Big Chicken to help children.

In recent history, Shaq’s moment with a little fan went viral when he called a boy over who was initially dismissed by his security team.

He’s currently on the path of making Big Chicken a national franchise chain. About 300+ locations are in development across the country. Shaq himself has dropped by on opening days and interacted with fans.

The Houston locals flocked the new Big Chicken store to see Shaq, even creating a safety issue. With so many Big Chicken locations opening by 2024, fans can anticipate Shaq in their city. Just remember his golden rule when you approach him for an autograph.
