Throughout NBA history, there have been some players whose personalities were a little out there. However, none more so than Dennis Rodman. Whether it was eccentric hairstyles, marrying himself, or se*ual proclamations about Madonna, the Worm was controversial. But, there is also a true touch of reality within him.
Whether it was his comments about the LGBTQ+ community or when he spoke about his tough environment growing up, the raw side of the Chicago Bulls legend often humbles his critics.

Dennis Rodman reveals tough childhood memories
While he became known for his unparalleled rebounding skills and brilliant defensive tenacity, it wasn’t always easy for Dennis the Menace. Even though the latter stages of his career saw a life of partying, the beginning wasn’t as cheerful. It wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows.
As he details in his book, Dennis Rodman had to navigate through some tough times. Some due to his own mistakes. Others, courtesy of his mother.

“And there are unhealed wounds – tough love gone wrong…When I was 19, my mother let me cool my heels in jail overnight when I got caught stealing…Later, she kicked me out of the house, trying to shock some sense into me,”?revealed the seven-time rebounding leader.

However, her attitude resulted in more than an overnight trip one time around, causing a change in his mentality. “I was homeless for months…She was just a hardcore black woman. Now I know ‘it was for my own good’, but I’m not sure I will ever be able to forgive or forget.”?
That divide, unfortunately, has carried over to the present day as well.
Despite 5 championships, Rodman hasn’t ‘accomplished enough’
As he continues on, it is clear to see that Dennis seeks approval. Or validation. “Today, I guess you could call my family ‘estranged.'”

Even though he was part of a group as popular as any band on tour, he still feels like he isn’t ready for confrontation.? However, he did make one shocking revelation.
“My mother has never even seen my three youngest kids…I can’t remember the last time the family spent Christmas – or any holidays – together.”?For Dennis Rodman, the journey isn’t complete and he still needs to accomplish more.
“I’m not going home until I make something of my life…I don’t think I’ve accomplished enough to sit down and talk to my mother about anything,” the Detroit Pistons legend admitted.
