No longer with us in the world, yet everything with Kobe Bryant‘s name on it automatically increases in value. One such instance earlier this month included the auction of the Black Mamba‘s locker from Staples Center, now known as the Crypto.com Arena. Meanwhile, the most recent one has been the auction of one of the Los Angeles Lakers icon’s trading cards.

The auction bid for Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Ultimate Logos Signature Kobe Bryant Signed Game-Used Logoman Patch Card that started on July 23 with $250,000 has now closed at $1,584,643. As per the official website of Goldin, not much was known about the card until it was submitted to PSA. A web-based application developed with the aim of streamlining fundraising efforts, Perfect Silent Auction (PSA) also increases the reach to bidders.

The auction platform for this recent Kobe Bryant trading card, as mentioned earlier, is Goldin. The platform facilitates online auction services, and in turn, the buying and selling of collectibles and memorabilia. However, the buying and selling are not limited to just sports items. Some other actionable items on the website are based on pop culture, entertainment, and history as well.

So far, Goldin has sold over $2 Billion in collectibles, as per the information available on the official website. In fact, this is not the first instance that the website has undertaken the auction of a Kobe Bryant card. If anything, there have been cards that have sold for even higher amounts.

The credit, without an ounce of doubt, goes to the Black Mamba‘s legacy rather than any selling platform. The earlier mentioned locker auctioned at Sotheby’s Sports Auction is another example.

The locker is the very one that the 5x NBA champ used from 2003 to the end of his career in 2016. As stated by Sotheby, the locker room at the Staples Center (renamed to Crypto.com Arena) did not come back to the spotlight until a maintenance worker rediscovered it in 2018.

“Every achievement and hardship left its mark within these walls… Its appearance now at auction symbolizes a rare opportunity to own a unique piece of Kobe’s legacy,” said Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles (Brahm Wachter).

It is worth mentioning the reported value of the locker before the auction at Sotheby’s was between $1 million and $1.5 million. The new selling price of $2.8 million is a significant growth in value. As for the auction winner, the locker room comes along with a consignor’s scrapbook of photos and a poster of the 18x All-Star.
