Dwyane Wade hung up the boots of his NBA career in 2019 after giving 16 years of his life to the league. The 3X NBA Champion was unstoppable during his prime. Despite playing with multiple injuries over his career, Dwyane managed to maintain his status as one of the most dominant players, thanks to his physical prowess. At just 6’4″, he had an incredible vertical leap and the physicality to penetrate the paint and score without hesitation.
D-Wade was quick, agile, and everywhere on the court. Additionally, he was a top-notch perimeter defender. After retirement, Dwyane watched his athleticism and physicality being stripped away by age. In fact, he admits in an episode of his The Why With Dwyane Wade show that he cannot even afford to hoop anymore because of the physical repercussions he would have to pay in the aftermath.

The once unstoppable force on the hardwood now regrettably reveals, “I don’t get on the court no more.” Over his career, the former MVP has had to battle persistent knee issues and they finally caught up to him. “These knees ain’t letting me be great,” he says. It has gotten bad to the point that D-Wade admits knee replacement surgery is inevitable. He adds, “Knee replacement is loading, it just depends on at what point in my life I want to get it done.”
The Flash, once known for his athleticism and agility, now has to think twice before even playing a game with his son. “Once in a while, my son will be on the court and I’d go in and try to teach him something but I’m off for two weeks after that,” Dwyane states. After retiring at 37, he had hoped to continue hooping for the rest of his life, but that has now become a distant dream. D-Wade admits that he tried testing the waters in alternative sports like Padel but it’s always his knees that slow him down.
Ex-NBA teammate challenged Dwyane for a Padel game
After retiring from the NBA, it seemed that Dwyane had picked up Padel as a new hobby. The racquet game was enough to keep the basketball pro entertained. In 2022, his former Bulls teammate Jimmy Butler challenged him to a game of Padel. “Be there or be square. The loser has to donate to whatever charity of their choice. But I tell you what, I won’t be the loser. Accept my challenge, chump,” he had said in his challenge.

Not one to back down, Dwyane accepted the challenge. Leading up to the game, Butler hilariously taunted and trash-talked about his former teammate. On D-Day, the two battled it out and later they shared a video where they disclosed who won. And no. it wasn’t Dwyane.
