There can be a separate competition for the coolest NBA granddad. After all, there are some pretty good contenders for that spot among our retired veterans. Recently, NBA legend Magic Johnson presented another claim for it with a heartfelt birthday post for his firstborn grandchild.

For this year’s Halloween, Gigi dressed up as her ‘Pop Pop’ in his Los Angeles Lakers jersey. So for her birthday, Magic listed out some of the good qualities of his granddaughter, saying, “Pop pop loves you!”.

The 64-year-old is a proud grandfather of two, Gigi who is 14, and his grandson Avery who is 12. It is very common to see Magic showering love with his family, but for his firstborn grandchild, it had to be something very special. The 5x NBA champion posted pictures with Gigi saying, “Happy birthday to my beautiful granddaughter Gigi!”. From the caption, it can be understood just how proud he is of his granddaughter. He wrote, “She so intelligent, smart, caring and an all-around awesome young lady!”. Magic is a very doting family man and is often seen on vacations with his family members.

As a grandfather, he takes it up a notch while praising the two grandkids publically. During this year’s Halloween, when Gigi dressed up as Lakers magic and Avery as rapper Ice Spice, he posted pictures of the two kids on his Instagram. He wrote, “Check out my grandkids for Halloween!”. He emphasized the fact that Gigi has done “a heck of a job” while Avery is very cool. “We thank God everyday my son Andre and his wife Lisa blessed us with both of them!”, he added.

However, Magic is not the only cool granddad in the NBA world. He has stiff competition with Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan.
