As DWade or Dwyane Wade, the 3x NBA champion will always be a superstar for his fans. But those names hold different meanings and versions for him. During his career, Wade recalled how not many people called him by just his first name, Dwyane. It was something that he didn’t hear much. That was his call. It influenced him to find his true self.
The Flash recently shared that whenever he had someone calling him by a particular name, it usually meant someone needed something from him, perhaps another selfish desire to get a benefit. However, just “Dwyane” meant something more personal to him and that was the reason why he named his second book Dwyane.
During his appearance on the Failure with Ryan Kavanaugh podcast, the 42-year-old shared the inspiration behind finding himself. “Everyone calls me Dwyane Wade. Everyone calls me D Wade. And normally when I hear that name, someone wants something from me. When I hear Dwyane, it’s like somebody knows. Someone who cares about me. The whole thought of doing that was in this next phase of my life, I want people to get to know Dwyane, but I am searching for him, too,” Wade explained.

During the conversation, the 13x NBA All-Star also shared the advice that he gave to his son. All the life lessons that Wade learned the tough way, he tried to share with his children. He revealed that on the path to success, one might lose people who were once special. “You know, I tell my son this all the time, like, you’re gonna lose people you never thought you would,” Wade shared.
He told his son that while the experience of it would be painful, he would slowly find his true self and success along the way. This was also the inspiration for him to title his photographic memoir after his first name.

Dwyane Wade reflects on what his second book meant for him
The Miami Heat icon’s second book, which released in 2021, tells his story and career from his perspective. The inspiration behind the book was never just a wrap-up of his career. There has always been more to it. In association with his photographer Bob Metelus, who captured numerous personal and professional moments of Wade’s career, the Flash let his photos narrate his story to the fans. It was to show what people could expect from him in the future.

“And so even though my book was a wrap-up of my career, the name was for the future, was who I wanted to, who I’m willing to work to become, to show people that I am,” Wade shared.
The 3x NBA champ even named his podcast after how people often misspelled his name. Wade recalled the people around him in the past and even during his Hall of Fame induction ceremony, made the mistake. And hence we get his podcast, ‘The Why’. Seems like there’s a hidden detail to every name Wade has used over the years.
