On March 30, one of the biggest sales in NBA history was completed. Amid much controversy, Kobe Bryant’s title ring from the 2000 NBA Finals went up for auction. Bids went on for a month before the gavel struck in finality on Saturday. The Black Mamba’s first championship ring sold for a record-breaking price. More Kobe memorabilia was on the auction block in 2024 with the ring and totaled over $2.73 million in value collectively.

Fans were outraged that the ring and memorabilia were up for sale and cited Kobe’s comments in 2013 about the sale of his memorabilia as the reason. Vanessa Bryant has stayed out of it and this time the sale has gone through via Goldin Auctions. As predicted, each item had an eye-popping price.

Bryant gave a copy of his first championship ring to his father, former 76ers pro, Joe Bryant. He gave a ‘friends and family’ edition replica to his mother, Pamela, who auctioned that ring previously. This time, Joe’s second copy of Kobe’s ring was auctioned by Goldin. The final price for this title ring was $927,200, making it the most expensive title ring. The last title ring to fetch the highest price was Bill Russell’s 1957 ring, which sold for $705,000 in 2021.

This ring features 40 diamonds in a total set in 14k gold. The Lakers logo, ‘World Champions,’ ‘Ring Bling’, and the year are engraved on the ring with Kobe’s name, #8, and a post-season record of 15-8.

Kobe Bryant’s 2009 Finals jersey – $915,000

Goldin Auction also closed the bids on the game-worn Lakers jersey from 2009 at $915,000. That’s the price of a supercar and one of the only two items Goldin sold for over $900,000 this year, including the title ring. The #24 jersey was from Game 3 in 2009 when the Lakers lost to Orlando Magic. Bryant made 31 points and eight assists in that game. He won his only NBA Finals MVP that season.

The auctioneers described the jersey’s numbering and lettering as done in tackle twill. The NBA logo is on the upper left chest along with the NBA Finals Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy patch on the upper right.

Among the Kobe memorabilia, Goldin Auctions also sold a rare artifact in MLB history – a 1951 Bowman card of baseball icon Mickey Mantle. A PSA card is rarely auctioned and is a premium collector’s item. The last time the great Mantle’s 1951 rookie card sold was in 2022 for a record $3.19 million. Back then, it was part of a series of Mantle Bowman cards that valued at around $10 million.
