Hurricane Helen—the damage is done, and now it’s time for recovery. It has almost been a week and there still hasn’t been a complete recovery from reportedly the deadliest mainland US hurricane since Katrina. However, people from all walks of life are sending in their aid and relief funds. One of whom is Michael Jordan‘s former partner, Juanita Vanoy Jordan, extending her prayers for the victims of the tragedy.
Taking to her official Instagram account, Juanita shared a post by Axios Charlotte in her IG story and wrote, “Praying for all the families in Western N.C.” As reported by NBC News, so far more than 200 people have lost their lives. However, aid and rescue efforts have intensified, as it has been almost a week since the tragedy struck.
According to the aforementioned IG post by Axios Charlotte, aid has started to pour into western North Carolina mountain communities. This includes semi-trucks, helicopters, military planes, and even the mules. However, more than 400 roads are still reportedly closed. Officials have urged the people not to travel into the western North Carolina region. Meanwhile, Juanita Vanoy hasn’t been the only one associated with the Jordan family to extend her thoughts for the victims.

Hornets Sports & Entertainment had previously committed $1 million donation to extend help in the tragedy. As per the reports, The American Red Cross and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina are the two bodies who will receive this amount in a distributed manner. And now on October 4, the Hornets Sports & Entertainment announced to extend further help for the affected ones.
Focusing on both immediate relief and long-term recovery, a retail launch, volunteer food packing event, and other activities are in immediate pipeline to boost the donations being received. Apart from this, the organization also plans to bring Carolina Strong t-shirts to the Hornets fan shop in Spectrum Center.
The entire revenue generated from the selling of these t-shirts will go for relief initiatives. Also, the Hornets’ NBA stars will wear the aforementioned t-shirt during their upcoming preseason games against the New York Knicks and Miami Heat. It’s clear that the sports community is showing an active involvement for relief measures against Hurrican Helen’s impact.
