Magic Johnson’s generosity is as vast as his legendary persona. Be it as an owner of numerous sports franchises, a philanthropist, or a health advocate, the billionaire is always at the forefront of it all to give back to the community. As a part of the Washington Commanders’ ownership group, the basketball legend has stepped up for a noble reason. He has joined the rest of the members and players in the league’s annual initiative, which could go on to help several unfortunate kids.

In connection with the My Cleats My Cause campaign, the 5x NBA champion has decided to auction off his custom-designed sneakers. And Johnson has a wonderful reason behind it, which is to help the young children, whose parents are serving time, with their college funds. For this initiative, Johnson joined hands with a local organization called ScholarCHIPS. The CHIPS stands for “children of incarcerated parents.”

Yasmine Arrington, influenced by her own experiences, saw new hope in starting this organization. Through the LearnServe program, she received her first grant of $1000 and has since helped more than 50 students. Many of them have graduated as well. The bidding process is currently active until December 12 at 5 p.m. With this new initiative, Arrington hopes to raise at least $1 million for the kids.

“We are very grateful to Magic Johnson for his generosity, and we are really going to try to hustle to make sure students have their scholarships and book awards. My dream, my goal is to raise at least one million dollars, and then a portion of that, or all of it we will take and make an endowment,Arrington said as per wjla.com.

This must have been the Los Angeles Lakers legend’s purpose as well. He has consistently used his $1.2 billion net worth to help those in need. Last year, he donated $600,000 to Delaware State University and pledged an additional $1 million.

So, contributing to this project was a natural fit for him. Several NFL players are also involved in the same.

NFL’s unique mission to help charitable organizations

With this annual campaign, players, coaches, and staff can raise money for the causes they believe in by auctioning off their custom cleats at the NFL auction. The lineup will feature cleats from nearly twenty-nine Green Bay Packers players.

An avid dog lover, Edgerrin Cooper has partnered with Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary. Even the shoes featuring paw prints demonstrate his love for dogs. On the other hand, Head Coach Matt LaFleur will present green and gold colorway shoes, and the proceeds will support the Valley Kids Foundation, which aims to help children in need in the Fox Valley.

Another star, Aaron Mosby, has joined hands with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay, while Christian Watson will show his support for two national causes. One supports the Light of Life Foundation, which provides information and knowledge for thyroid cancer patients. This was a nod to his mother, who is a thyroid cancer survivor, and the other benefits the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

“Our players are passionate supporters of many charitable causes and serve as changemakers in their communities. We are excited to build upon last year’s success and work with our players to expand this unique platform that enables them to raise awareness for causes they support,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said about the initiative. Like last year, this year’s campaign is expected to be a huge success.
