For a genre that is far too common, horror movies can still work wonders when done correctly. Just in the last few years, names like? It,?The Conjuring, and Insidious?have done exceedingly well. But, those were all heavy money, major projects. A relatively underrated movie that may have sweet under the radar came out a few weeks ago. Released June 16, 2023,?The Blackening?is a horror/comedy movie with a limited budget. However, for fans of the genre, it quickly became a favorite.

Made on a budget of just $5 million, the movie has grossed over $17 million thus far. While the total sum might feel pedestrian when movie earnings have reached a sum upwards of a billion dollars, it’s actually a great return on the investment. For a relatively unknown cast, featuring primarily black artists, the movie has been a smashing hit.
Gabrielle Union, shared a story on her Instagram, with a moving caption, “Run don’t walk. You will not be disappointed!!!”
The movie has been a critical success, with 86% of critics from Rotten Tomatoes giving it a favorable review. Further, they called it a thought-provoking satire on tropes and racial stereotypes.
Union, who was held back due to her color at a point in time, was quick to not let other members of the black community feel the same way.

In 2001, Union tried out for the high school flick Sugar & Spice.?But, the team wanted an all-white cast for their project, and unfortunately, Union was on the outs. Certainly, this discrimination flavored Union’s recent comments on the mostly-black horror film.
However, her eventual major breakthrough with?Bring It On?launched her career to stardom. As she makes peace her priority, it’s nice to see that she doesn’t harbor any harsh feelings toward the crew.
