The multi-hyphenate Shaquille O’Neal gets to boast about a few different jobs on his resume. He’s known as an NBA legend, a sportscaster, entertainer, musician, EDM DJ, and entrepreneur. Very few forget he’s actually a cop too. The 7’1″ gentle giant (when he was not on the hardwood court) could make a great law enforcement officer. He thought so too. After first joining the police force over a decade ago, Officer Big Diesel is back on duty to encourage more recruits.
O’Neal filmed a police recruitment video for the Los Angeles Port Police in authentic Shaq-style. It is larger than life like the big man himself. His brief police stint is also a quick reminder that even the celebrity cop isn’t immune to justice.

A lesser-known Shaq-Fact is that the Los Angeles Lakers legend is a police officer. Always fascinated by the uniformed career, he entered law enforcement at the peak of his prime. O’Neal was sworn in as a reserve officer with Miami Beach PD in 2005. His job pays a token annual salary of $1. He’s also a reserve on the Los Angeles Port Police.
Now the LA Port Police called him up to duty for a very important task – getting new recruits. Shaquille O’Neal joined the brave folks of the police department to film the most epic recruitment video ever.
Like the formidable center who couldn’t be guarded, Officer O’Neal comes to the rescue of his uniformed colleagues.
The video depicts a bad guy on the run when one officer says, “We need the Big Aristotle.” Another cop said, “Bring in the Diesel!” One oblivious cop went, “Who?”
Behold, the man arrives, more intimidating than when he suited up in purple and gold, in his dark uniform and badge.
The owner of a fleet of luxury cars hung off an armored vehicle which was a sight scary. Even the other cops were left flabbergasted. The “Big Shamrock” only needed to point for the baddie to run to a cop and surrender.
The video concludes with Shaq between his fellow officers saying, “Team is more important than any one of us. If you have what it takes to join the Los Angeles Port Police, come on down. It’s time to dive in.” Where do we sign up?

There was an instance where even Officer Diesel couldn’t escape the long arm of the law.
An upright Houston officer caught him for speeding. He was disheartened, but he’s also a nifty entertainer who turned it into an opportunity to promote NBA on TNT. Clearly, there are no hard feelings between O’Neal and his fellow people in blue.
The LA Port Police were also grateful for filming this promotion.

“Big thanks to @SHAQ for his continued support for law enforcement and spending time with his old police department,” Port Police tweeted. It wouldn’t hurt to see him in uniform once again.
