Are you wondering what the ‘Raising Fame’ podcast by Lucile O’Neal and Sonya Curry will look like? Here is a heads-up for you. The two mothers starred in a YouTube interview ahead of their big release, and Lucile O’Neal shared some bold statements on what it takes to be the mother of a superstar like Shaq. There were also a few lines of advice as Lucile highlighted the difference between a mother and a girlfriend.

The mothers of two NBA legends Shaq and Stephen Curry are teaming up to join the podcast trend, but their attempt is set to be unique, which will shine on the untouched side of what it takes to be parents of a basketball star. The Raising Fame will share the mother’s perspective and here is what Lucile had to tease about it.

The mother of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar shared, “I made a mention a few years back when I had a dealing with a lot of the mothers of the professional basketball players. I reminded them you’re not the girlfriend. You are still the mother.” Lucile does not want the mothers to take their role for granted after their kids find success. The role never changes. You will be guiding one way or the other, according to the 69-year-old.

Shaquille O’Neal‘s mother said, “We all had to make sure we stayed in our place. We’re going to always be the mother. Can’t be the girlfriend. We get the little extra money, we wanted to wear the diamonds and drive the beautiful car, but we’re not the girlfriends.” The Warriors star’s mother Sonya added, “Or the wives”, as the crew shared a laugh.

Lucile raised Shaq as a single mother for several years before she met  Phillip, who was quick to take the father role. But in the years in between, she grew into Shaq’s “best friend.” Through the journey, Lucile had to sacrifice much and grow to stand on her own financially. The struggles continued after Phillip’s arrival but they never stopped being a family. Thus, when Shaq earned his first paycheck, he paid off his parents’ debt. Not only that, against Lucile’s advice of being a girlfriend, Shaq went on to spoil his parents a little with luxury.

On the other hand, while Steph grew up as the son of NBA player, Dell Curry, it was Sonya who played a major role in bringing him up. With Dell often away for the games, “She deserves a lot of credit for how we turned out,” Steph says.

Sonya Curry shares how she guided Stephen Curry, even after years of success

Like Lucile said, the role of a mother is permanent. It doesn’t change even if your son is a 4x champion and a millionaire. Even today, Sonya guides the Golden State Warriors superstar, especially during tough times. She shared a simple technique that mothers can follow to support their children.

“It’s a balance. You want to help them, you want to be present, you want to nurture them, but you can’t forget that they just need their parents and our roles change along the way. One way when they’re babies, once they get older, high school, college, and then I’ve just settled in on right now as the adult.”, said Sonya.

As an adult, Sonya’s role is now to just “listen” to what her kids say. “They’re still progressing in their journey as celebrities“, and in this journey, Sonya wants to be present and listen to them. There is no wonder why Chef Curry is still so successful in the league.
