Is Shaq's investment strategy the secret sauce to financial freedom? What's your take on annuities?

Most of the advice coming from a billionaire is worth millions! Don’t believe us? Shaquille O’Neal was able to keep the ball rolling thanks to the several pieces of advice he received from successful and wealthy businessmen, such as Jeff Bezos. However, it wasn’t from the former CEO of Amazon, but from another secret source that he learned about the biggest investment of his life.

One thing about O’Neal, who splurges on lavish car purchases, is his skill to make more money than what he spends. One of the best ones he came across early in his career is an investment in an ‘Annuity Fund.’ Interesting, right? The 4x NBA champ has often spoken about his investments in Annuities.

“I said how and he taught me a word I never heard. ‘Shaq, you need to invest in Annuity,’ and I never knew what it was. And I looked it up cuz I was making so much money from commercial and all, I didn’t know what to do with it. And he said, ‘Yeah all this money you’re making, if you put it away you can invest it and you can start collecting at 50 60, and 70.’ So that was my greatest investment,” O’Neal shared while he kept the source a secret.

An old and rich friend of the Big Aristotle gave him the advice. Thanks to this endeavor, the 52-year-old will be able to retire from his analyst career anytime without worrying about leaving his lavish life behind. And that also includes his family. In a previous interview, he shared that he works now for fun. He has already made his and his family’s life secure with the Annuity Fund.

“I don’t pay any attention to the money. If I lose it all, it is no big deal, myself and my family are already financially secure because when I started in the NBA, every year I invested in annuities,” O’Neal had stated. What is an Annuity, though? It’s essentially a financial agreement between a client and a company, where the client makes payments over time, and later, the company starts paying them back.

Interestingly, Shaq had also invested in Google, which was significant, but it wasn’t what Annuities did for him. This was a big one. Shaquille O’Neal has always listened to great businessmen like the time he listened closely to the advice Jeff Bezos shared and applied to his business.

Have an interesting take?

That’s likely why we see Shaq’s tremendous success with his investments. The reason is quite simple: he doesn’t just focus on profit. The Los Angeles Lakers legend deeply cares about how these ventures can create positive change and impact society.

On that note, his recent investment also focuses on the well-being of people. He partnered with Campus, a venture that has already raised $29 million from high-profile investors.

“I heard Jeff Bezos say, if you invest in things that’s going to change people’s lives, you’ll always get a great return on your investment. But this particular investment is not about great return because I feel that everyone should have access to world-class education,” O’Neal said. The startup was launched by Tade Oyerinde and works to bring education closer and more affordable to people who need it. This is exactly what O’Neal stands for. And that shows why the Big Aristotle is loved and admired by people.
