The live attendees at Crypto.com arena were blessed to witness a historic feat today as LeBron James hit the 40,000 point milestone against the Denver Nuggets. These are a few moments that you do not take for granted, and only a few got to witness it live. Surprisingly, one among the thousands was Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, who shared a video of the NBA scoring leader making the historic layup. Johnson, who was present to witness James overtake his former teammate last year too, was unsurprisingly full of praise for The King.
“Congratulations to LeBron James for being the first and only player in NBA history to score 40,000 points! I’m so glad I was here to witness such an incredible feat!”. Notably, the 5x champion also watched James surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at LA last year. He also made a mention of it, “I love that I’m here tonight, I got to see when LeBron broke Kareem’s record, and the fact I was the one who passed it to Kareem when he originally set the record!”
Along with this came a challenge, as the 3x MVP added, “Now we need the Lakers to pull out a victory to make the night even bigger and better for LeBron!”

However, sadly, the Nuggets spoiled the Lakers’ big night once again. The Lakers had a historic day a month ago when the franchise unveiled the most-awaited Kobe Bryant statue. Fans wanted the Lakers to honor the special day with a win, but Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray did not allow that. And that was repeated tonight as the reigning champions won the home game 124-114.
Nonetheless, Johnson takes pride in the King for his achievements. After all, James wouldn’t be in the LA unit, if not for Johnson. The 5x nba champion took great pride in recruiting the man who eventually surpassed his former teammate in the All-Time Scoring list.
Magic Johnson’s thank you note to LeBron James after he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
The Lakers did not secure a win when James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar last year in February either. They lost by three points but regardless, Magic Johnson was proud that the 4-time MVP had a historic night.
The 64-year-old shared on Twitter, “I want to personally thank you LeBron for trusting & believing in me & the Lakers in 2018 when I was president of basketball operations.” James’ greatness took a step further in his time at LA.
