“I was one of the first players in the league to wear the double-breasted suit,” Carmelo Anthony once said about how the NBA players have changed the fashion game. And he is right on point. From Allen Iverson and Dwyane Wade to Melo himself, NBA players have channeled their own vibes. The Knicks legend was especially famous for his classic and formal attire. However, over time, there has been a big fashion change for him, thanks to his new endeavor.
It’s been a while since Melo stepped into the tech business. He has long been interested in this field and is thriving in it. Among all the explorations he has been through, one good change that he has brought out is in his clothing! In the latest episode of 7PM in Brooklyn, the Knicks legend shared how he prefers comfortable and loose-fitting clothes over tight ones.
While talking to D-Wade and Kazeem Famuyide, Melo said, “You know what changed my perspective or like on that styling like you always got to like be tight and you know what I mean, be dressy? I’m like nah. When I got in the tech game in the tech industry when I was investing and I used to go to these meetings, these n—- in there with black Tee’s and gray Tee’s, not white Tee’s…..They coming to boardroom board meetings (in) sneakers, Jordans. All type of s—. Toes out. I’m like d—. So, I took that approach. I’m just going to be comfortable as possible if you want me room here’s what you get.”

“But you got to know when to throw the suit on, but even the suits down is like sweatpants!” Melo said as he laughed. Carmelo Anthony’s journey into the $9.1 trillion (as per Bank of America reports) valued tech world began all the way back in 2013. He partnered with former NBC executive Stuart Goldfarb to launch his own venture, Melo7 Tech Partners, with his first investment being Hullabalu.

Well, thanks to this venture that brought a fresh perspective, his preferences have changed. And it seems that, with a slight nudge from comedian and actor Kevin Hart, Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade is also set to change his style.

He joked that jeans are causing him pain in his knees and that he doesn’t like the feeling around his waist. He further added that slacks and pants are the best choice for him. This is because the slacks are comfortable, soft and allow you to move easily. He just wants a comfortable lifestyle, much like the New York Knicks legend Melo!
What’s your perspective on:
Is Melo's shift to comfort over style a sign of the times for NBA legends?
Have an interesting take?
After hearing Hart’s choice in the podcast, D-Wade who is now 43 said, “I’m going to go first cuz I’m 43 I’m f—— with it.” He further added, “You’re going to catch me in some slacks! Everything he said I’m f—— with it. I don’t want no jeans. I’m ——- with a KHart. Get them pants out. I tell my stylists all the time. Don’t bring no jeans in here, please don’t bring no jeans.” And it seems Hart has convinced Wade as well. So, we might see another fashion shift soon.
