Philadelphia 76ers managing-partner Josh Harris created a group of key people, including Johnson, who would help him place a bid for the franchise.
The sale was agreed upon in exchange for $6.05 billion. This marked the highest price that has been paid to acquire a North American sports franchise. The previous record holder was the $4.65 billion paid by Rob Walton, heir to the Walmart fortune, to acquire the Denver Broncos.
Even though the Harris-Johnson bid was not the highest, with former NBA player Brian Davis coming in at $7 billion dollars, the Snyder couple still went along with the former group. A few days after the deal was confirmed, Johnson took to Twitter to share the news with his 5.2 million followers.
