There is an old saying that goes, “The thing about true legends, the absolute best of the best historically, is they somehow always find themselves in these moments, no matter the stage of their career, and just deliver. Over and over again“. Amidst the insanity of the college football season, even all-time NBA greats had to acknowledge that fact. While it began with LeBron James, the rest of the basketball world soon followed. Among them was a noted fan of the head coach, 4x NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal.

Due to the sheer odds, the September 2 game between the Colorado Buffaloes and TCU will stand out as one of the greatest upsets in college football history.

Even though college football is typically exciting on its own, this season is off to a remarkable start. Between Caleb Williams’ meteoric ascension and news of a Big-12 expansion looming, the season was already brimming with excitement.

However, in Week 1 itself, an upset of epic proportions has set the sports world on fire. And the age-old adage reveals itself, “Never bet against an all-time great.” Unfortunately, pundits and oddsmakers alike did not get the memo. Today, Deion Sanders stands atop the world, proudly proclaiming the arrival of his team.

Coincidentally, and amidst much skepticism, he accomplished the feat with his own son as a part of the lineup. However, the victory might silence most doubters.

But, the Los Angeles Lakers legend isn’t the first to celebrate the historic feat. That record goes to his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James. Both legends, in unison, couldn’t help but appreciate the enormity of the moment.

The tale of the tape

Before kick-off, the odds were firmly against an inexperienced Colorado side. As a result, facing off against last year’s National finalist TCU, the spread read +20.5. A historic margin, but ultimately, wrong. Suiting up for his first game as head coach for the Colorado side with his son in the lineup, no less, the pressure was on Deion.

However, like the great ones always do, Sanders found a way. Kicking off a remarkable start to the College Football season, Colorado shocked TCU 45-42. Further, Shedeur’s numbers were instrumental while 4 Buffalo receivers eclipsed the 100-yard mark.
