After much fanfare, the Jets were ready to lock into battle with the Buffalo Bills. An established game-changer Aaron Rodgers going up against one of the younger names in the game Josh Allen. However, minutes into the spectacle, the Jets lost their prized possession. An ankle injury on a tackle ruled the 39-year-old out of the contest.
However, the Jets stuck together and recalibrated. Putting in Zach Wilson, the team was able to hang in throughout the night, even leading with less than 2 minutes to go. However, a game-tying field goal from Buffalo set up a crackling overtime period.
While the Bills tried to move downfield, the vaunted Jets’ defense came to the forefront, leading to an incompletion. As a result, a kick return was in play. However, rookie punt returner Xavier Gibson had different ideas. Logging almost 65 yards, he cleared the endzone, securing a touchdown and a victory for the New York Jets in his debut game.
