Money is not the priority for two newly minted billionaires. Magic Johnson is enjoying his latest promotion, but there are things he values more. The feeling of winning, for example. The Los Angeles Lakers icon is channeling his championship mentality in the Washington Commanders locker room. He’s encouraging his players to do whatever they can to get him the first Super Bowl title as an NFL team owner. Even if that means dating Taylor Swift.

Like Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Taylor Swift is also a new inductee in the Billionaires Club. And her good fortune is spreading to the NFL too. Magic would love a chunk of that for his team.

Magic Johnson wants the Taylor Swift charm

The 64-year-old was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about the 10-figure life. Someone else who just joined him is the pop icon Taylor Swift. The chart-topper has not been greedy with her good fortune. She’s sharing some of it with her rumored boyfriend, Travis Kelce, his team, and even the NFL.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend prioritizes winning over billions in the bank. Even Jimmy Kimmel does and he encourages Johnson to go in the locker room and tell his players, “Whatever you got to do, if you can date Taylor Swift, I’ll pay you. I’ll double your contract.” 

Johnson not only laughed at that, but he added an extension of the conditions. “And make sure she makes us win too.” He would add, “I want the money but I’d rather have the Super Bowl.”

Kimmel and his studio found that a hilarious and noble idea. Taylor Swift has been the proven lucky charm for the Kansas City Chiefs even without confirming her alleged romance with Kelce. The Chiefs have lost games she’s not attended, making fans believe the Swift charm is real. The NFL is also cashing in on the Taylor factor by garnering more audience to NFL games just to see if she’s in the stadium.

Magic doesn’t care for the profits. He prefers getting Swift’s ‘Golden Touch’ to bring him his 15th world championship. Magic has, of course, built his wealth through stakes in multiple sports franchises alongside other investments. Ingenius business acumen and the knack for being no.1 is something Magic and Swift have in common.

Forbes announced that Magic Johnson and Taylor Swift are the newest billionaires on their list. And they dissected their moneymaking playbook too. While Swift amplified her stardom, especially with her Eras Tour success, Magic compounded his NBA wealth with investments. He was one of the savvy investors who recognized the potential in Starbucks. He’s now a franchisee and investor in the coffee giant as well as Burger King, Equitrust, and 24 Hour Fitness.

His sports investments in particular make him wealthier and a winner. The 5x NBA champion of the Showtime era has another five NBA championships as a minority owner of the Lakers. He also won a World Series as a minority owner of the Dodgers, a WNBA championship with the Sparks, and an MLS championship with the LAFC. He now hopes to round it up with a Super Bowl championship with the Commanders.
