For Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, it was a moment of direct confrontation as hated old rival Nebraska Cornhuskers’ head coach had offended him multiple times this year. As Sanders Jr. took to the mic to defend his father, Deion Sanders, and his team from any sort of “disrespect,” Shaquille O’Neal highlighted the moment on social media.
Attempting to follow in his father’s footsteps, Shedeur has been a part of his college football teams for the past two years. While he spent most of it with the Jackson State Tigers, the 21-year-old recently switched to the Colorado Buffaloes.

The ongoing NCAA Football Tournament saw Sanders’ team facing off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Winning their second game in a row, Colorado defeated their opponents by a score of 36-14. During the post-game press conference, Shedeur Sanders stated that his win against Nebraska was “extremely personal.”
Many reasons can be attributed to this. This was Deion Sanders’ first game as head football coach on home soil at Colorado. In addition to the sold-out game with an old rival, Matt Rhule, Cornhuskers’ head coach has made unwarranted comments on Deion. At one point during the pre-game warm-up, Rhule and his team gathered on the Buffaloes logo at midfield, something that is widely considered a sign of disrespect towards the home team.
The QB laid out that while he and his teammates were warming up, they could see the head coach of Nebraska just standing in the “middle of the Buff. It’s OK if a couple players do it – It’s fine, like just enjoy the scenery. But when you’ve got the whole team trying to disrespect it, you know I’m not going for that at all,” said Sanders during the post-game press conference. “I went in there and disrupted it.”
Furthermore, he made it clear that his feelings towards Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule were something that had been there for a long time. “The coach said a lot of things about my Pops, about the program, but now he want to act nice,” Shedeur added during the conversation. “I don’t respect that because you hatin’ on another man. You shouldn’t do that.”

The post caught the attention of the former Los Angeles Lakers star. He uploaded it on his Instagram story for his 32.3 Million followers. Besides igniting the spirit of sportsmanship, Shaq possibly wanted to emphasize to his followers how the young Sanders stood in defiance of the disrespect shown earlier to his father.

Deion Sanders’ team is earning big praise from celebrities
Nebraska’s defeat was not only a big moment for Shedeur but for Deion Sanders himself. Colorado’s first match against the TCU Horned Frogs was a test for Sanders to see whether the training and guidance he provided to his players would bear fruit. His efforts paid off and Colorado secured a stunning 45-42 win.
Deion Sanders’ masterstroke achievement was subject to a couple of congratulatory tweets from NBA stars like Magic Johnson and Dwyane Wade. Even Shaquille O’Neal’s ex-wife, Shaunie Henderson, took to Instagram to send her congratulations. She also placed a personal request by writing, “Now all I need is another EPIC Coach post-interview so I can do another TikTok.”
