Michael Jordan is known for his fierce competitiveness. Unsurprisingly, the six-time NBA champion’s competitiveness extends beyond the hardwood. Be it a card game with teammates or a round of golf, Jordan wants to win no matter what. Notably, he even reportedly cheated during a game of cards against his college teammate’s mother just because he wanted to win. Furthermore, to gain a mental edge over his opponents, MJ would often bet. Recently, an NFL legend talked about one such instance at Jordan’s golf course.

There have been multiple stories about the Chicago Bulls legend’s gambling and betting. While he has time and again made it clear that he does not have an addiction, his habit is still criticized by many.

Michael Jordan has an incredible private golf course called Grove XXIII which cost him approximately $20 million and spans over 15,000 square feet. The luxurious club is an exclusive invitation-only venue. Interestingly, the five-time NBA MVP purchased the course after he was kicked out from another exclusive club. It seems he took that personally. Furthermore, Grove XXIII is nicknamed Slaughterhouse 23?because it is tailor-made to suit the strengths of His Airness.

NFL legend Dwight Freeney talked about his experience playing with Jordan on his golf course. Freeney recently made an appearance on Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich Outkick and discussed a variety of topics. Including, of course, the Grove.

In one instance, Dan Dakich stated that Jordan lost to him when they played golf in 1984 and that he owes him $6000.? He also said that the Hall of Famer was learning to play golf at the time.

He then asked, “So my first question is, that dude owes me six grand. When you play with the man in his course and apparently it is set up for him, does he pay it off now?”

The Indianapolis Colts legend replied, “Listen, you don’t have to worry about your six grand. You will probably get it before you get off the golf cart. He’s probably sitting there waiting for you. He’s a great guy.”

Furthermore, he also noted that MJ has gotten good in golf. He also said that playing with Jordan was a pleasure.

Dan Dakich was not the first guy to claim that Michael Jordan owed him money. Even Freeney did not deny that Jordan does not bet. Instead, he claimed that he would pay it off if he loses a bet.

Notably, a man named Richard Esquinas once claimed Jordan owed him about $1.2 million from gambling.

While Dakich was just joking about it, Esquinas was serious. He even wrote a book titled, ‘Michael & Me: Our Gambling Addiction – My Cry for Help!’ in 1993. Understandably, this stirred major controversy.
