Deion Sanders has now taken the avatar of ‘Coach Prime’ to yet again resume the hype behind him. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach is the talk of the town for his 3-0 clean record so far in the NCAA tournament. However, this is not the first time Sanders has changed things around with his influence. ‘Coach Prime’ is not his first avatar, rather, it is ‘Prime Time’.  A video of the NFL legend explaining the reason behind ‘Prime Time’ has left Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal awestruck.

Surprisingly, this nickname was not given by the fans, but a “script” which was started by Sanders himself to change a few things.

Shaquille O’Neal has a lot of avatars too. Big Diesel, DJ Diesel, basketball champion, television host, and whatnot. However, all this came naturally. When it comes to Deion Sanders, the narrative is different. ‘Prime Time’ was intentionally created by the 2-time Super Bowl champion for two purposes.

First, Sanders entered the sporting world only for his mother, who worked hard to make ends meet. The 56-year-old is one of the best defensive backs in NFL history, but that was the lowest-paid position during his era.

Second, Sanders wanted to be a revolutionary, which he eventually achieve. It was the 1994 DPOY’s excellence as a defensive back that changed the pay scale of that position. ‘Prime Time’ was not created by him just to help his mom or to increase his contract worth, but also for people to adore him.

In an interview, Sanders explained, “The defensive backs wasn’t paid what they were worth and I created a character… If you kick the ball or throw the ball to me, you are gonna hear the band play. I had already scripted that.”

“Prime was a character. Deion is something that they really never met. He was too subtle… he would cause no disturbance, no smoke… You wanted ‘Prime’, and I gave you that,” Sanders justified his alter ego.

The video caught the watchful eyes of Shaquille O’Neal, who shared it on his Instagram stories. The man with many monikers promoted Sanders’ point of view.

Sanders continues to be successful as a head coach too.

With all eyes watching him, the 56-year-old has managed to maintain a winning streak even under immense pressure. Last year, the Buffs won 1 out of their 12 games. So far this year, Sanders has led them to a 3-0 record.

The Colorado Buffaloes are indeed a team to look out for in the upcoming games. With ‘Prime’ as their coach, they now top the odds
