A resurfaced clip from 14 years ago served as a reminder for fans of the charm that the late player exuded. A charm so powerful that it even subdued a horse once.

Promoting a new line of shoes, Kobe Bryant talks about ‘Ankle Insurance’

During his 20-year career with the NBA, Kobe Bryant received offers to promote and endorse products from various companies. The player’s association with Nike has been one of the best collaborations in the company’s 59-year history, second only to Michael Jordan. Remembering that, an Instagram channel recently uploaded a video of an old Nike advertisement featuring The Black Mamba.

A caption appearing on the side of the screen identified the player as the ‘President and CEO and CFO’ of ‘ANKLE INSURANCE Co.’

The five-time NBA champion could be seen sitting on a horse, which stood on the side of a basketball court. As the people in the background continued their game, Kobe went into a long narration about ankle insurance. The video then zoomed to the feet of two men who were playing in the background.

One of them was wearing ‘Zoom Kobe IV Cut’ shoes. The second player, who was wearing ‘Ordinary Generic Plain Uninteresting Tennis Shoes’, soon fell and broke his ankles. Kobe Bryant continued his monologue on the insurance, stopping at one time to shush the horse.

The ‘Ankle Insurance’ Ad was created by Nike as a way to promote the ‘Zoom Kobe IV Cut’. They were a new line of sports sneakers that were made in collaboration with Kobe Bean Bryant.

Fans react to the hilarious advertisement

Along with inducing a sense of nostalgia, the bizarre horse stint definitely created a few laughs among the people.

Many Instagram users were surprised that Kob had done such a bizarre ad. They made their shock clear through comments like, “I never saw this in my life n ima die hard Kobe fan lol”, “I’ve never seen this before lol” and so on.

One user who saw the ‘never saw this’ comments wrote, “So many saying they never saw this…meanwhile this SOLD the shoe for me (laughing emoji) my first pair of Kobe’s”. He definitely had a bout of nostalgia.

Others were very impressed that the company created such an unlikely yet hilarious ad to market the product. Those users left remarks like “That blown up ankle will forever have me hollering”, “This is the greatest thing I’ve seen today.”

The rest didn’t forget to mention the one who made the ad what it is. Perhaps the most iconic comment was- “Takes a goat to quiet a horse.”

The legend may no longer be with us but his work still exists to not only inspire but allow people to also let out a laugh from time to time.
