The NBA is constantly in flux. However, that change also leads to large-scale consequences for the teams undergoing change. That is the scenario the Milwaukee Bucks find themselves in after trading for superstar Damian Lillard. While there was an adjustment period for the new alliance, the team has found its footing. But, Charles Barkley still has his doubts regarding the viability of the Giannis – Dame duo.

His concerns stem from a simple place. Discussing the game on TNT without Shaquille O’Neal, who has a different role to play in the match against the Miami Heat, Barkley wasn’t shy in voicing his opinions about the Bucks’ superstars.

When you’re a superstar, the hardest thing to do, Ernie, is to learn to play without the ball…Especially, if you’ve been Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and Dame. They’ve both been the best player on their team. Obviously, Dame for a decade. Giannis, since he came into the NBA.”

Further, he would elaborate on his point, with special emphasis on Lillard. “But, when you play. First of all, they’re gonna learn – the better players you play with, the easier it is…It’s hard to learn. It’s really hard for Dame. Because Dame is…He gonna have to play better defense, he gonna have to pass the ball more. He’s never done that before. ”

On the other hand, Giannis Antekounmpo has his own problems to worry about, according to the 1993 NBA MVP. “He’s gotta defer to Dame at different times. The hardest thing I said was…Dame is an offensive guard and he’s had the green, purple, every light in Portland.”

With questions still existing about the pair’s success, can they survive against all odds?

While the Miami Heat did miss out on the Dame sweepstakes, they have been increasingly consistent to begin the year. After a historic upset in last year’s playoffs, the primary reason to bring in Dame for Milwaukee was clutch time play.

So far, the experiment has been a success. After a rough first week, the Bucks have been firing on all cylinders and are consistently at the top of the standings. Their resilience has become a major part of their season’s success story.

During their match against the Heat as well, a close affair ultimately saw Milwaukee win. But, rather than Dame or Giannis, it was Khris Middleton taking control of the game in the waning moments.

Whether it was scoring or assisting, Middleton was active in every department, dropping 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists in 23 minutes of play. A welcome sight for Bucks fans if their Big 3 is solid, healthy, and functioning. It seems like Barkley might have to give up on this guarantee.
