Either Chuck is craving a Big Mac or he’s just sorely disappointed. Charles Barkley‘s little prediction about the Kentucky Wildcats ahead of their matchup against underdogs Oakland came true. Because they didn’t take heed of his advice, he delivered a very scathing remark on the Wildcats in his unique fashion.

Kentucky playing with all these McDonald’s All-Americans and there’s Oakland playing with guys who grew up eating at McDonalds,” he said after the Wildcats suffered a 76-80 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. A big part of that is owed to the Oakland sharpshooter, Jack Gohlke who made 10 3-pointers in the game and nearly set an NCAA Tournament record.

Note: Chuck is paraphrasing himself. A McDonald’s All-American himself, he made the same comment on Kentucky in 2017. “Kentucky has 5 McDonald’s All Americans… Northern Kentucky has 5 guys who eat McDonalds,” was his retort when the Wildcats actually won 79-70 with future NBA stars, De’Aaron Fox and Bam Adebayo. This time, he means it as a jab to Kentucky.

The Wildcats have a bad habit of making their opponents into underdogs every year. This year, Oakland’s Jack Gohlke made everyone question if the Wildcats is truly a three-pointing shooting squad. Gohlke alone made 32 points and he made seven 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes of the game. If this is the result of eating McDonald’s, why not?

Barkley saw Kentucky getting outperformed today. He warned them before the First Round matchup, “At some point, they’ve got to make a deep run. They can’t keep getting upset. I mean, they’re the University of Kentucky. They’re one of the greatest programs in history and Cal is a terrific coach and a good friend. But at some point, he can’t keep living off what happened during the Anthony Davis era.”

Since Anthony Davis’ era at Kentucky was over, the school has made it to the Final Four twice but it’s been downhill for at least a decade. They haven’t gone past the first weekend of the tournament since 2019 and their opponents have looked very good playing against them. Despite Charles Barkley keeping his fingers crossed, the #3 school didn’t accomplish a feat.
