The Atlanta Hawks have two warnings now. After their second consecutive loss today, the fans have already started to criticize the team’s front office for not making any moves this season. Now joining the fans in the criticism is Boston Celtics champion Kendrick Perkins. The 39-year-old has made it clear that the Hawks are not going to improve if they don’t open themselves up to trade talks. Whether Perk considers Trae Young to be ideal candidate or Dejounte Murray is unclear. But with both guards clearly not fitting well together, it might well be time for a change.
The Hawks have been losing big in their last few games. Despite some great performances from Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, their losses have been alarming and Perkins believes the team needs a change. After an embarrassing 34-point loss to the Pacers today, Perkins tweeted, “It’s time for the Hawks to make you tough decisions!!! They have been one of the biggest disappointments this season.” The 2008 NBA champion hinted, “Somebody needs a change of scenery.”

Who is that somebody? Dejounte Murray has not been a great fit for the Hawks so far. The shooting guard dropped an impressive 30 points today, but sadly that was not even enough to make the game competitive. Before the start of this season, Trae Young was often put in trade talks with various teams after a string of disappointing playoff runs. With his ascent into superstardom though, it’s unlikely that Atlanta would want to let him go. However, if the current trajectory continues, they might not have a choice.
Since being drafted in 2018, Young has consistently improved every season to the point where he’s averaging 27.7 points and 11.1 assists this year. With this level of production, it’s possible that the 25-year-old will also start considering making a “tough decision”, as Perk suggested. If the Hawks are unwilling to let Young go, he could walk in the 2027 Free Agency class. Or, if the team continues to decline, Young could also request a trade.

The Hawks are currently the 11th seed in the west with a dismal 14-20 record on the season thus far. It’s unlikely that any small trade will be enough to salvage this season for the franchise.
Are the Atlanta Hawks going to deliver a blockbuster trade soon?

That is definitely on the cards. According to a few reports, the Hawks have made Young “untouchable” in the trade talks. However, the market is open for Dejounte Murray. He will be eligible for trade talks starting from January 9 and many analysts believe the 27-year-old will traded before the deadline.
Apart from this, Onyeka Okongwu and Saddiq Bey also enter free agency next season, which widens the scope for a possible blockbuster trade very soon.

Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls and Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors could be of great help for the Hawks. However, the team has not actively shown interest in any big star. Rather, they have just informed other teams about the availability of their players
