Can Carmelo Anthony's new films and shows match his legendary status on the court?

Carmelo Anthony wants to spill some tea, but don’t tell his business partners. The NBA legend is barely a year into retirement but he’s got big things brewing in his post-basketball life. We know about some of the things he’s been up to, like his podcast and wine brand. But there are certain projects in the pipeline. Things that he’s not supposed to disclose yet. But during an appearance at the House of Craft event in October, Melo dropped a few spoilers about what he’s doing. At the risk of angering his partners, too.

At the New York event, Melo revealed he spent the last seven years strategizing life after basketball. Among the many ventures, he dished, “We got production companies too. We got films coming out and TV series coming out over the next 12 months.” Record scratch, rewind. Carmelo Anthony’s about to drop some movies and shows? But it’s not completely out of the blue.

Melo officially went into the media business with Creative 7 (his #7 a running theme in all his businesses) in 2021. Business strategist and his longtime associate, Asani Swann, is one of the primary partners at Creative 7. Their first order of business was collaborating with other studios. And Melo wants to keep them happy even though it makes him unhappy.

My partners will kill me,” he told the room when he was pried for more information. “That’s the part of the game I don’t like. ‘Cuz I want like, I want to engage, I want to share.”

Despite no official permission from his partners, he did spill a little. “We have some Creative 7 productions films. We have a slew of projects that’s coming out, sports, history, real true stories about overcoming adversity, and you know, whether it’s individuals, whether it’s places, conversation…”

After the runaway success 7pm in Brooklyn has been, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding Melo the producer’s creative content. And even if his partners don’t want to spoil anything too early, they see his vision.

Have an interesting take?

Carmelo Anthony was still playing with the Portland Trail Blazers when he formed Creative 7 with Swann. Almost immediately, they collaborated with veteran producer, Will Packer, Brad Pitt’s Plan B, and the producing team behind Get Out and BlacKkKlansman. They teamed up with Shaun and Yvette Yates Redick’s Impossible Dream on an unnamed project and were in discussion with Hock Films. Creative 7 had a lot more projects in development at that time.

Melo called it an NBA career two years later. We’ve seen more of his entrepreneurial side since then. “I’m just working, I’m building, I’m enjoying what I’m doing, I’m enjoying building my vision and my team enjoys building it with me too… They understand what we actually really trying to do.”

The Creative 7 page has not teased anything new since 2023. So they’re really being secretive about the projects they’re due to release in a year. But Melo implies they understand his excitement and will allow this spoiler.
