There were a lot of deserving names waiting for their names to be etched in the history of the game tonight. One such legend Dirk Nowitzki, who’s often touted to be the best player to come out of Europe, gave a speech to remember. When called on stage to receive the honor, Nowitzki, being his humorous self, stunned everyone as he hilariously mocked two of his most famous teammates.

The Dallas Mavericks won their only title in 2011 on the back of one of the greatest postseason runs by the German. Overcoming the likes of Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and more, Dirk was truly unstoppable. It’s quite evident that Dirk is as good with his jokes as he was with his one-legged fadeaway as he left everyone in splits when he got inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Dirk Nowitzki went all in on former teammates

Dirk Nowitzki will be remembered as one of the greatest shooters of all time who is one of just 7 players to enter the 30,000-point club in the NBA. However, that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of two of the greatest passers in league history: Steve Nash and Jason Kidd. However, Nowitzki decided to mock the two greats during his speech tonight.

As per Rachel Nichols, he said, “I would really like to have played with those two guys in their primes, but unfortunately I had to work with what they gave me.” He didn’t hesitate to remind everyone that neither Nash nor Kidd were at their peak during their time in Dallas.

There might be some truth to Nowitzki’s words, though. Nash played for the Mavs for 6 years and although he improved every season, the team didn’t have much success. The Canadian won back-to-back MVPs as soon as he left for Phoenix. On the other hand, Kidd spent his initial years and his twilight years in the league with the Mavs. His most fruitful tenure came elsewhere. However, Kidd was a major part of Dallas’ title-winning team in 2011.

Just like in his speech at the Hall of Fame ceremony, Nowitzki was quite a daredevil when it came to portraying his flamboyant basketball skills. A former teammate of his gave a rather interesting insight into his fadeaway move.

2x All-Star Jerry Stackhouse opened on the origins of Dirk’s legendary fadeaway a few days ago. The NBA defenses had no answer to the move. Standing at seven feet, he could have scored over anyone, and stopping him was basically impossible. Stackhouse said, “I got it from Rick Carlisle. Where he got it from Larry Bird.”

Stackhouse made it clear that Nowitzki took inspiration from the Boston Celtics legend. Nevertheless, tonight was all about celebrating the greatness of a man who mesmerized fans for years.
