Despite his demise over three years ago, Kobe Bryant continues to be an inspiration to many in the basketball world. The majority of the up-and-coming ball players look up to the late Los Angeles Lakers legend. However, there are not many people who had the honor of meeting the 5x NBA champion and picking his brain. But now, an old clip of Bryant imparting some invaluable basketball wisdom to the sons of his former teammate was shared by Boston Celtics legend and his ex-rival, Kevin Garnett.

But what was the lesson the Black Mamba gave to the young boys? Let’s find out.

Kevin Garnett, who was one of Kobe’s many rivals, reposted an old clip of Bryant giving a lesson on basketball to Matt Barnes’ sons. Bryant and Barnes shared a long history. The 43-year-old once tried to scare Kobe by pump-faking throwing a ball to his face, but to everyone’s surprise, Kobe didn’t even flinch. Turns out Barnes wanted his kids to learn about similar dare-devilish abilities from the 5x champion.

In the clip posted by Garnett, Kobe said, “This is where you mess up. This is where things feel weird and they look weird. So when you play in front of a bunch of people unbelievably smooth right? Be comfortable. Be uncomfortable here when you practice. The game is where you show off. Suffer in silence.”

Not many would have thought that Kobe might be coaching the kids of the guy who had talked trash consistently. Maybe Barnes joining the Lakers and playing with Bryant for two years led to the changed relationship. Nevertheless, that moment of Barnes trying to get in Kobe’s head is immortalized in NBA folklore.

Matt Barnes on his relationship with the Black Mamba

Matt Barnes, in a conversation with Gilbert Arenas, revealed the first time he saw Kobe on campus and then went to compete with him. But it was not until the infamous fake passing incident that the two got closer. After that particular game, Kobe called him up and started respecting Barnes.

You know Gigi would we?d all be playing at the all the sh*t out in Orange County.” Barnes made it clear that despite differences between the pair, they got along quite well off the basketball court.
