Can Dwight Howard still make an impact in the NBA, or is his time truly over?

Dwight Howard certainly had his share of fun earlier this year when he got some of the Lakers’ supporters pleading for him to return before their eventual elimination by the Denver Nuggets. The star center has been quite vocal about not finding a home in the NBA ever since his last stint for the Purple and Gold. And if the fans could finally see the Superman make a save for the final time, Howard clarified about his return.

I love the game. I’ve always loved it.” Dwight Howard was alongside Gilbert Arenas and his crew. But the father of five has spent enough time looking for a comeback and now wants to spend time with his kids. “I put in so much work, so much time, it’s like now I want to give that time to the kids.” The 38-year-old stated that he made enough sacrifices during his playing career, and now it’s important to spend time with his children. More so because they are reaching a certain age, where missing their small or big events is not conducive anymore.

But with his love for the game on the other hand, DH12 has been focusing on growth in China and has been successful in that.

Speaking about it at Gil’s Arena, Dwight Howard said that it has been an “amazing” experience. Because now he is not just a player but a league owner as-well. Part owner of Taiwanese basketball league as well as one of its teams. Thus helping provide opportunities to other players as well.

It was earlier this year that Howard announced he was going to be a part-time owner of the Asian basketball league while also being a owner of and a player for the Taiwan Mustangs. A few weeks later, it was announced two former NBA stars were set to join him.

His former Lakers teammates Quinn Cook and DeMarcus Cousins are part of the new team as announced in June this year. “Thank you QC man you was a great teammate, I’m glad to have you as a teammate again in the the Asian tournament,” Howard had penned.

The Lakers star himself made his debut in Taiwan’s professional basketball league for the 2022-2023 season. At the time, the league made an exception for Dwight Howard with a $1 million offer as the league cap of foreign players to $200k.

The 6’10 Center tried coming back to the league, but at no point did the answer come positively. “Like I done played in the NBA for 19 years. I done you know what can I prove,” Dwight Howard stated on the podcast. He also added that last year he did work out with the Golden State Warriors, but once again it did not materialize into any move.

Even if he got the contract, the teams would be hesitant to give him a starting role. And he doesn’t want to get benched and answer to his kids when will he play next. So it seems Howard has put his NBA career finally in his rearview. But we can’t be certain until the formal announcement.
