Dwyane Wade just got an iconic honor with a statue—but support from fans and analysts? That’s a different story. The Miami Heat legend has been at the center of social media chatter, but not for the reasons you’d think. His statue has taken quite the heat, with critics pointing out it bears little resemblance to the NBA star. While Wade might have expected some backlash, the constant trolling has kept the conversation lively. But now, Wade has come back swinging with his spin-off on the situation, bringing a dose of humor that’s hard to miss.
D-Wade took to his Instagram story with a response to the haters. Filming his statue with a playful vibe, he sang along to a tune, adding, “Ain’t doin’ nothin’ if they ain’t hatin’. You can’t hate outside the club. You can’t even get in.” He didn’t stop there, throwing in another line for good measure: “You ain’t in the nostalgia club, you can’t hate on me.” This witty jab seems aimed at critics like Charles Barkley and Gilbert Arenas, who didn’t hold back on the statue either.
On TNT’s Inside the NBA, Ernie kicked things off with his own brand of humor, jokingly suggesting that everyone came dressed up as Wade for Halloween. In reality, no one was, but the punchline landed with the implication of how anyone could look like Wade—well, anyone except that statue. This whole segment added to the running joke of how Wade’s statue might be better off in someone else’s likeness.

Ernie did throw in a note of respect, calling it a great honor for Wade. But Barkley was never one to mince words, said “It’s a great honor, but they gotta take that thing down.” Kenny Smith tried to soften the critique, suggesting the artist might’ve gone for an animated look. Barkley, however, doubled down with, “That thing’s awful…”.

Not one to miss out on the fun, Gilbert Arenas joined in on Gil’s Arena, delivering his own roast. Laughing, he remarked, “You got the Dwyane Wade jersey on with Thanos chin…” Arenas even spun a theory of how the statue’s odd look was revenge-fueled, joking, “The problem is you can’t let the ex-wife design the face… That’s what he gonna look like when he see this sh*t.”
Dwyane Wade “don’t care” about trollers
Dwyane Wade feels on top of the world after the Miami Heat honored him with a statue outside the very arena where he played for 13 years. Talking with PEOPLE, Wade shared his excitement, saying he’s “over the moon” about seeing himself immortalized. “I can’t believe it. That’s me back there in an artistic form,” he said. For Wade, the statue captures “one of the biggest moments of Miami Heat history.” Notably, he’s in awe because he’s the chosen one.

And, despite some fans’ opinions on the statue’s look, he and his family are in high spirits. “We all just on the high high, and nobody could take us down from our high. We sky high, we over the moon,” he said, making it clear they’re unbothered by anyone’s opinion. Wade’s stance is simple: “Everyone has an opinion… but we’re not concerned with no one’s opinion. We wouldn’t have a statue if we ever was concerned with someone’s opinion.”
“I spent a lot of time on what I wanted this statue to feel like and look like,” he said, emphasizing his hands-on role in the process. He even made multiple trips to Chicago to meet with the sculptors, spending hours fine-tuning every detail. “I learned so much,” Wade shared, making the statue feel much more personal to him. Enjoy your days D-Wade!
