Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson retired from the NBA almost 27 years ago. However, the 64-year-old has always kept himself involved in the world of professional sports. Having acquired ownership stakes in the NFL’s Washington Commanders, the MLS’ Los Angeles FC, and more, Johnson has tasted success from various different avenues. The 5x NBA champion has also been a part of a renowned baseball franchise for over 11 years, and he recently received a cause for celebration.
This comes almost a year after Magic revealed that he refused to spend money on the $4.8 billion rich franchise’s players.

Magic wrote his own caption alongside the Dodgers tweet, congratulating them on their recent victory. “Congratulations to my @Dodgers for once again clinching the NL West! This is the 10th time in 11 seasons since we’ve owned the team,” said Johnson in his tweet. While he thanked every Dodgers player, the former NBA star placed special emphasis on pitcher Clayton Kershaw, outfielder Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman.

The LA Dodgers hold a special place for Johnson, especially since the NBA legend has an ownership stake in the team. Back in 2012, the MLB was holding less-than-positive opinions about then-Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. The controversy kept on building, which ultimately led to the Dodgers going up for sale.

Magic Johnson revealed the reason for not taking any Dodgers members on vacation
Back in October 2022, Johnson was invited as a guest on ‘The Jimmy Kimmel Show’. While touching base on various topics, Kimmel placed special emphasis on some of the famous vacations that the former basketball star is known for taking.
When Kimmel asked whether he ever takes any of the Dodgers players along with him on his memorable trips, Johnson instantly replied in the negative. The 5x NBA champion did have a valid reason for doing so.
“They make too much money. They should be taking me on trips,” said Johnson during the interview, drawing a bit of laughter from the crowd. Despite not being willing to spend any extra on the players, Johnson is not someone who isn’t open to negotiation.
